On May 18, museums around the world celebrated their professional holiday - International Museum Day, a theme of which is set annually by ICOM - International Council of Museums and professional museum workers.
The theme of the celebration this year was: "Museums as cultural hubs. The future and traditions", that is a look at the museum as a centre of culture and activity of active people to maintain traditions and create new ones. One of the traditions in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is football, which began in 1908 with "Polytechnic" football team. Today, students, teachers, veterans of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute play football at the university. A children's football club works as well.
That is why this year's International Museum Day dedicated the State Polytechnic Museum to football and Valeriy Lobanovskiy, who studied at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and started his football career from here. According to the findings of the reputable French magazine France Football 2019, Lobanovskiy is one of the 10 best club coaches in the world history of football, ranking the 6th place.
The museum opened an exhibition "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Football. Lobanovskiy ", which was created with the participation of the Department of Sports Improvement Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and where you can see the achievements of its teachers and coaches. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to Valeriy Lobanovskiy - a student, footballer, mentor. The exhibition is accompanied by a screening of films, presentations and videos about Lobanovskiy, a children's cinema hall with football themes, table football games were organized.
The team of young footballers of the club "Capital of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" with its coach Ihor Oleksiyovych Mentyukov, as well as the authors of the documentary "Lobanovskiy forever", directed by Andriy Hulyanich and the film's producer, sports commentator Serhiy Polkhovskiy, came to the holiday.
