On September 28, on the eve of the Day of Libraries, in the Scientific and Technological Library of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute its employees, partners and readers celebrated “Library Day 2018”, which was held under the slogan “Library’s Open”.
As a matter of fact, the openness of the university library and the fact that it becomes, or rather has become, a space not only for reading, but also for the acquisition of new skills and abilities, communication, the birth of ideas and, in the end, just rest – it was all mentioned by those, taking the floor.
The director of library Oksana Bruy began a story about the projects that are being implemented in the library and which will start in the near future. There is something to tell about: the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute students and employees not only read here, but are joined various programs; improve their own English by communicating with speakers at the English Speaking Club; listen to interesting lectures; exchange views in discussion clubs; work on hackathons, workshops and coworkings; take part in business games; deal with many other interesting things and even have a rest. In the speeches of Oksana Bruy and her colleagues, the words “openness, openness, openness” were heard by the refrain. “We are open for ideas, and, most importantly, for people!” Oksana Bruy also emphasized, concluding her speech.
“Without exaggeration, the library has become the center, in which ideas are concentrated, people are implementing interesting projects. And we will continue to support all of this” said Yuriy Yakymenko, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, first vice- rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, in his congratulations to the participants of the festive meeting.
The first among the representatives of the partner companies of the library, who came to congratulate its staff on a professional holiday, was Olexiy Dyshlevyi, Personnel Manager of Education and Personnel of EPAM Systems Ukraine. The company has just made the library a generous gift: handed over 50 Thin Clients HP t5630 and 100 Monitors 19 “HP Compaq LA1951”. Thin Clientsa are the devices for inputting and displaying information; they are actually compact computers, downloading the operating system that is on the server. It is worth noting that EPAM Systems Ukraine is not the first to give modern equipment to the library: for more than two years it has a powerful server, which it has been presented earlier. As noted by Yuriy Yakymenko, the company is a reliable friend and partner of the university.
And another gift to the holiday was the information on the awarding of the honorary title “Library of the Year 2018” to the Science and Technology Library of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, which was shared with the presenters by the Executive Director of the Ukrainian Library Association Yaroslava Soshynska.
The official part, which, however, turned out to be completely unofficial, but warm and easy, ended with a joint signing by the participants of the meeting with the banner of the library. In the end, the actors of the Creative Association “Night at the University” performed with the mini- play “Third Place of Man”, which, of course, was devoted to the life of the library, acted in front of the audience.
