This year the Department of Philosophy of the Igor Sikorsky KPI celebrates the 60th anniversary of its foundation. Prior to this date, its team held the International Scientific and Practical Conference, which became the symbolic place of meeting of different generations of the academic community of the department.
The conference was held on May, 31. It was opened with a welcome speech by the head of the department of philosophy, dean of the Faculty of Sociology and Law, scientific secretary of the Igor Sikorsky KPI, PhD in Philosophy, Anatoliy Melnychenko. Then, the head of the department of philosophy, Doctor of Philosophic Sciences, prof. Borys Volodymyrovych Novykov gave his speech. He drew special attention of the students for the significant contribution to the development of the department, which made his three predecessors on the position of the head of the department.
The conference was called “Philosophical Heritage of P.V.Kopnin and Modern Philosophy”. The representation of the name of Pavlo Vasilyovych Kopnin in the title of the scientific event is not accidental, because this prominent Soviet philosopher became the founder and the first eyewitness of the newly established department of philosophy at the time in Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1958. It is logical that many reports within the framework of plenary and sectional meetings were devoted to this historic figure. In particular, the representatives of the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which was headed by P.Kopnin in the 60's of the last century, were invited to the conference, i.e., the correspondent member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine A.M. Yermolenko and professor V.I. Kuznetsov in his speeches comprehensively highlighted various aspects of the scientific and creative biography of the philosopher.
