On April 25 H. I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library held the third meeting within the cycle of historical studies "Think about it", which is devoted to the 120th anniversary of our university. This time it was a question of public transport of Kyiv in XIX - early XX century. The invited lecturer was a famous in Kyiv ethnographer, writer, author of numerous historical works, and doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Stefan Mashkevych.
More than 60 guests gathered in the room of rare and valuable documents. Everyone listened carefully to the fascinating story, after which the lecturer answered the questions for a long time.
In general the time was devoted to the history of the Kyiv tram. It is well known that the first electric tram in the Russian Empire appeared exactly in our city. The project of the city railways was implemented by engineer Amand Struve in 1891. Since then, the city has had several tram routes, connecting distant districts of the city. One of the routes was placed along the current Peremohy ave. by which teachers and students got to KPI.
There are many interesting episodes in the history of the Kyiv tram, and the listeners learned some of them. The topic was almost inexhaustible. Another topic added it one: about tram tickets. Several Kyiv collectors of tickets came to the "transport" meeting; they demonstrated their treasures with pleasure and answered the guests' questions. The library also has already developed a small collection of tram tickets found among book pages.
The next meeting will be held at the end of May. We plan to talk about the Kyiv architects - teachers of the Polytechnic Institute during the early twentieth century. Mykhailo Kalnytsky, a famous scientist and writer, already agreed to tell us about them.
We gladly invite everyone to the H. I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library. Keep an eye on ads in social networks.
