On March 15 scientific readings of "Outstanding constructors of Ukraine" dedicated to the well-known Ukrainian scientist and teacher, laureate of the State Prizes of Ukraine (1973, 1993) and the USSR (1981), the founder of the Ukrainian school of optimization theory and the author of fundamental works on the theory of optimal statistical decisions, system analysis, theoretical and economic cybernetics Academician Volodymyr Mykhalevych (March 10, 1930 - December 16, 1994) were held at the State Polytechnic Museum of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Many well-known specialists in the field of informatics, mathematics, economics and operations research, who now actively work in Ukrainian science, are indebted to him for their creative achievements. Therefore, the readers were not researchers of the history of science and technology, but students and colleagues of a well-known scientist. And, of course, his relatives. The readings were opened by the rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykhailo Zhurovsky, who emphasized the extraordinary diversity of scientific and scientific-organizational activities of Volodymyr Mykhalevych and its significance both for the national science as a whole, and the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" in particular.
Then the student of Volodymyr Mykhalevych, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the head scientist of the Department of the Institute of Cybernetics named after V.M. Hlushkov of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ihor Kovalenko shared his memories about him. After that a friend at postgraduate studies and a long-time colleague of V.S. Mykhalevych, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Koroliuk made a report "V.S. Mykhalevych – a postgraduate student of academician Kolmohorov". The next report was devoted to the scientific and organizational activities of Academician Mykhalevych as Director of the Institute of Cybernetics. It was made by the deputy director of the Institute of Cybernetics named after V.M. Hlushkov, Academician of NAS of Ukraine Oleksandr Palahin.
Speech of the Professor of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Valeriy Zadiraka was about issues of scientific creativity and discoveries of Volodymyr Mykhalevych, as well as the report of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Letychevsky.
Readings ended with the personal memories of a wife of the Academician Marharyta Diyesperova, who is also a scientist, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, and of his daughter, a founder of the Charitable Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development named after Academician V.S. Mykhalevych, Liudmyla Rusalina, who spoke about the activity of this establishment.
