The Ukrainian Rock Climbing Championship, 12th on the account, took place on February 23-25 in Kryvyi Rig (Bouldering type). These annual competitions take place once again at the Metallurg Stadium, where the ski lift is located in the supported building. Nearly 50 athletes from 10 higher education institutions (7 regions of Ukraine) gathered to show their skills.
From the Igor Sikorsky KPI went the maximum number of participants, namely 12 students (although the team - 6 people). The impetus for an increase in the number of athletes-climbers is undoubtedly the opening of the rock climbing hall of the KPIskala, where our students can train and improve their rock-climbing skills.
Training brings tangible results. This year the team of the Kyiv Polytechnic was completely renewed, but the youth kept a high raised result and won a team competition among Ukrainian universities. For the 3rd year in a row, our team wins the Ukrainian championships among students.
There is also a development and a personal score. Makar Troyan (pictured above), a 3rd year student at IASA, became a bronze prize winner at this year's championship and played the rank of candidate for the masters of rock climbing. This is a pretty good result and an incentive for other athletes. The team was prepared by Vadim Mykolayovych Myhailenko (senior teacher of FBMI) and Yevhen Mykolayovych Kozak.
Our team “KPIskalaClimbingTeam” runs weekly free coaching sessions where everyone can try themselves in a new Olympic sport.
This summer, the World Climbing Championship among students in Bratislava (Slovak Republic) will take place, but there is no funding for all trips and athletes go to the competition at their own expense. Therefore, if someone has the opportunity to become a sponsor, our team is always open to communication.
