On December 1, the XVI All-Ukrainian student tournament of Physicists started at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
This is a team competition among students of higher educational institutions, the aim of which is to solve research problems and defend their solutions in scientific polemics. Each year the organizing committee publishes a list of 17 research physical tasks and the team of students try to solve them during several months. Work on tasks in most cases is not limited to purely theoretical calculations, but requires the conduct of experiments, analysis of literature, etc. At the tournament the teams come with ready-made solutions and present their solutions in the format of the physical battles. During physical battles each team consistently acts as a speaker, an opponent and a reviewer. Such competitions have been held since 2001. Since 2005, representatives of foreign universities began to participate in them, and in 2009, the International Physics Tournament was launched on their basis. Today, the All-Ukrainian Student Physics Tournament has the status of the National Stage of the International Tournament.
The tournament will have five rounds. This year they will be attended by 15 teams from different universities in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Sumy.
Finals of the tournament is on December, 5. The ceremony of summing up and rewarding the winners of the tournament will be held on the same day in the Big Physical Classroom of Igor Sikorsky Institute. Beginning is at 16-30.
