The 24th of April in the hall of administration board of NTUU “KPI” took place regular scientific auditions on the course “Outstanding Ukrainian constructors”. The auditions were dedicated to Dmytro Pavlovych Grygorovych, Ukrainian aircraft designer, the creator of the best several Soviet hydroplanes of the beginning of the XX century, called “Flying boats of Dmytro Grygorovych, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of designing M-5”. The traditional organizer was a National Polytechnic Museum (NPM) of NTUU “KPI”.
One of the most outstanding aircraft designers of the first part of the XX century – Dmytro Grygorovych was born, got his education and turned out an aircraft designer in Kyiv. The graduate of the mechanical faculty of KPI in 1909. From 80 designs of aircrafts, created by him or under his guidance, it is divided into sea-flying boats M-1, M-2, M-3, M-4. The 12th of April 1915 M-5 – a classical construction of a flying boat made his first flight. It is necessary to admit, that during World War I the basis of aviation consisted from the flying boats.
Life of Dmytro Grygorovych was full of ups and downs. From 1912 he worked as a director of the aircraft factory of the First Russian aerostatics community (FRAC), were flights were constructed. In 1929-1931 during period of the campaign against “middle-class specialists” he was arrested, he worked as a director of the prison design bureau – CDB-39, where he designed fighter aircraft I-5. He is a constructor of gun-type fighter aircraft IP-5. He brought up a number of constructors of aircraft and zenith and rocket equipment, under his guidance worked: S.P. Korolov, S.O. Lavochkin, M.I. Kamov, G.M. Beriev, I.V. Chetverikov, V.B. Shavrov, M.K. Skryzhynskiy, M.K. Tykhonravov.
General characteristic of the construction legacy of outstanding Ukrainian constructor gave a prorector of scientific work of NTUU “KPI”, academician NAS of Ukraine – Mykhaylo Ilchenko, who began the audition. The participants found out a lot of interesting audiences (among which were professors, students, co-workers of NTUU “KPI” and other Ukrainian universities) from the curator of the historical department of KPI NPM of NTUU “KPI” Vitaliy Tatarchuk. He spoke about the childhood, studying in KPI, first steps in aviation of D.P. Grygorovych. After him spoke the main scientific co-worker of National aviation museum, candidate of historical sciences – Valeriy Romanenko with a speech “flying boats. Development and use.” About the first in history aviation design bureau in Butyrska prison, where Dmytro Grygorovych worked, spoke the director of NPM of NTUU “KPI” Natalia Pysarevska.
The sum of the life of Dmytro Grygorovych were 80 constructed aircrafts, almost 40 of which were constructed in series, powerful school of talented students, creators of aircraft and cosmic equipment and amazing construction decisions, which are still considered as classic.
