The conference " Resource efficiency of the enterprises in Kyiv region" took place in the exhibition hall of the Science Park "Kyiv politechnika" on December 8, 2015. During this conference the project results of resource efficient and cleaner production in the Kiev region were presented.
The conference was organized within the framework of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Ukraine " Promoting the adaptation and introduction of resource efficient and cleaner production through the establishment of the cleaner production centre in Ukraine".
Six enterprises of Kyiv region participated in this project during 2015. According to the results of a comprehensive technical audit the Centre suggested technical solutions that provide:
- Reducing of water consumption by 100,300 m3 / year;
- Saving gas at 4403 m3 / year;
- Energy savings at 128,464 kW • h / year;
- Reducing the use of materials by 94 tons / year;
- Reducing of CO2 emissions by 64 tons / year.
The overall economic impact that can be achieved from implementation of the proposed solutions is about 2.1 million USD / year.
The conference was opened by Deputy Rector for Research "KPI" Valery Barabash. He particularly noted the need for quality training of engineering and management personnel with specialization in resource efficient and cleaner production and said that the university provides special support for researchers working on this issue.
When addressing to the participants with a welcoming speech, Deputy Head of Mission Embassy of Austria in Ukraine Iro Klaus stressed that improving energy and resource efficiency industry is a global challenge. It was demonstrated by the agenda of the recent Climate Summit in Paris. According to the diplomat’s words, these issues are important for Ukraine considering the fact that the Ukrainian economy is one of the world's highest performance energy consumption of production processes.
According to Anna Kuznetsova, project coordinator for sustainable energy use of Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine, the project of promotion the adaptation and introduction of resource efficient and cleaner production in Ukraine aims at providing quality services to enterprises which want to achieve European standards of resource efficiency.
Sergey Hudobin, the director of Corporate Security Department of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, noted that the outstanding results that were achieved by enterprises-participants of the project, indicate the need to spread this experience to other regions and involvement in the project of new enterprises. He thinks that significant scientific potential of local universities and academic institutions will encourage the success of the project in Ukraine.
Shylovych Igor, the director of the centre for resource efficient and cleaner production, said that as the experience of companies participating in the project shows, most of the proposed technical solutions do not require the involvement of sub-enterprises additional investments and the effect of their implementation can be a tangible reduction of inefficient resource and energy consumption.
In total, the conference was attended by representatives of more than 30 enterprises, research and development organizations, international funds.
Conference "Resource efficiency of enterprises in Kyiv Region" was held to expand the number of participants of UNIDO project, attracting new businesses and increasing public awareness, companies, academia and other stakeholders on resource-efficient and cleaner production. Since 2013 the centre of resource efficient and cleaner production were examined 50 companies in four regions of Ukraine (Kiev, Vinnitsa, Odessa and Zaporizhzhya), prepared over 40 certified experts on RECHV. Since 2015 missions of the center are also in Lviv and Kharkiv regions.
