During the meeting of leaders of the British Council in Ukraine with the management of NTU "KPI" new programs of learning English were discussed. This meeting took place on 2 October. The KPI was visited by the director of the British Council in Ukraine Simon Williams, his deputy Natasha Vasilyuk and head of curriculum Lyudmila Tacenko. Rector of NTU "KPI" NAS of Ukraine Mikhail Zgurovsky, first rector of Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yuri Yakimenko, Vice-Rector for International Relations Member of the NAS of Ukraine Serhiy Sydorenko, Director of the Center for International Education KPI Volodymyr Koval and others have been communicatind with guests.
The rector told guests about traditions of university and about ways which the university as the recognized leader of introduction in educational and scientific activity of innovative programs follows. Of course, he didn't ignore and the ecosystem of "Sikorsky Challenge" and a festival of innovative projects created at university under such name which soon already for the fourth time will take place at university. Participants of a conversation remembered also that the history of activity of the British Council in Ukraine began with KPI, the first office of the Ukrainian compartment of British Council was located here, and exactly here within nearly 10 years participants of various educational and other projects which it realized came.
Participants of a meeting, or it is rather to say, discussion about the directions of possible cooperation, discussed two important questions.
The first - about the beginning in KPI of advanced training courses of English for teachers of the issued departments. It will allow to begin teaching majors in English both for foreign, and for the Ukrainian students. Our about 50 teachers the knowledge of English in the respective professional areas will be able to deepen. They will also become founders of programs of teaching special courses in English at our university. It opens before KPI broad prospects as thanks to it the university can come to the international transfer of educational services. Actually, the decision on introduction of such English-language preparation was made long time ago, but the reality lags behind the intentions declared in it so far, and is so important for university participation in such project.
The second program about which it there was a speech at a meeting is not less interesting, - the program of development of potential of leader capacity of universities of Ukraine. In total 40 Ukrainian higher education institutions will take part in it within three years. The word "leaders" is meant as the most active and talented representatives administrative, academic and student's communities. On 5-7 such people from each university after training have to play a role of leaders of development of capacity of university, carriers of the idea of reforms and the directions at which they should be realized. Participation in this program, by the way, will give us unique chance to considerably raise the positions in the international ratings of universities.
Soon, in October of this year the competition of applications of 10 universities for participation in the first stage of the program, which will pass since February to 2016 February, 2017 will be announced. The British Council will provide a certain quantity of grants that each Ukrainian higher education institution found the British university, which corresponds to its majors for supporting in work on the project.
The program as it is stated above, is calculated on 3 years. Therefore in 2018 the following results from realization are expected: creation of national network of experts who will be that driving force which will provide introduction of system changes in the universities; adjustment between 40 Ukrainian and 40 British higher education institutions of partner exchanges; introduction of gears of distribution, cooperation and exchange of effective practicians of development of leader potential; effective use of leader potential in system of the highest councils of Ukraine and separate universities and so forth.
