Students of the Institute of Telecommunication Systems KPI, who were lucky enough to get a scholarship to study abroad, share impressions of their stay in the master's University of Technology Dresden. "This is not only exhausting training, boring lectures and seminars, but also an interesting dialogue and various trips" - they say. Last year, Germany was visited by Sergey Kashuba, Victoria Korsak, Alexei Oleksenko Dmitry Puhkaev and Bogdan Trach (annual scholarship); Lyudmila Burkan, Oleg Lavrynenko Alexei Organ (semi-annual scholarship). Over the past five years up to 20 students KPI have successfully completed training and received certificates of masters in Dresden. This is a story of the brightest moments of the trip, prepared by Sergei Kashuba, Victor Korsak, Alexei Oleksenko and Bogdan Trach.

Dresden is considered students’ city, because with a population near half million people there is here the university of the size KPI. However, this does not mean that students spend time only in the classrooms and libraries. The city is very convenient for a saturated and active leisure. System of training at the University allows not only to acquire knowledge, but also to enjoy the process of learning. Workshop discussions are going on with the professor as well as between students in the classroom.

In their spare time, students are engaged in research work at the department. Bogdan Trach - one of the participants in the dual degree program, worked at the Department of operating systems (http://os.inf.tudresden.de), headed by prof. Herman Hertig, where he studied microkernel operating system L4 Fiasco (http://os.inf.tudresden.de/fiasco/), which is used in high security communication systems, super computers’ centers, embedded systems. Department’s scientists are studying the characteristics of the system in the framework of European and international projects. Part of the work they give to students. After the fulfillment of an assignment, there is a meeting with the head, which gives new challenges and directions for their implementation.

The work takes place in the students’ laboratory of the Department, the working place for 4 - 5 students. The laboratory is equipped with modern computers; there is an internal test network, separated from the university. Friendly atmosphere, discussions, arising in the course of work – are normal things. During the session, students prepare for exams here.

Students can attend one or more sport’s sections. You can choose from up to 100 destinations, among which we can find the mountain sports, canoeing, even ballroom dancing. The only problem that may prevent attendance - speedy end of availability on the day of registration.

Good leisure is just a walk around the city. Dresden differs with plenty of green spaces, calm traffic. There is no skyscrapers in the city. The historic center of the city, in spite of the destruction during the Second World War and forced reconstruction, is a sample of striking beauty and harmony. For lovers of historical heritage there are the original museums: transport, historical, hygiene (a better name - medicine) and others. Special attention should be given to the Zwinger Palace, which houses a group of museums, including the Dresden Art Gallery. One day is not enough to see the works of art collected here.

One of the features of Dresden, as well as the whole Germany, the use of a bicycle not only for sport and rest, but as a transport too. Along most of the roads, there are bicycle paths or separated lines, which makes this method the fastest on short distances. Within six months, we bought bikes and began to scout the area.

35-kilometer voyage from the city Radebeul to the castle of Moritzburg was the first our bike trip. It turned out quite disorganized and chaotic: there was a breakdown, which, however, was quickly fixed. Several times we lost the way, even with our maps and navigators. But we had pleasant impressions: we drove by the historical places, saw Saxon vineyards, enjoy nature, beautiful landscapes.

Through Dresden alongside with Elbe, there goes the cycling trek EuroVelo 7, that permeates Europe from north to south. By this trek, it is possible to get to the other local attraction - Saxon Switzerland. This was our second long-haul routes. The trip was easy, even though the distance was twice as much as last time. The road goes through a very scenic area - along the river between the rocks and the Saxon Switzerland. Travel inspired us to future trips.

Each of us was very happy to get the opportunity to study abroad. The knowledge that we have acquired during our studies in Germany, helped us in writing our thesis.
