Mid-autumn was strenuous for scientists FL. October 28, 2014 the IV International Scientific and Technical Conference "foreign language education in higher technical school: methods, approaches, and technologies" was held. The event started with an opening address O.S.Sinekop, associate DELTO №2, who congratulated the participants and guests of the conference and invited Emily Magaziner, an English teacher at Janet C. Demiray English Teaching Resource Center at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Report of colleague from America has been devoted to new approaches and practices for the study and language learning. The next speaker was a colleague from Poland, now Senior Teacher of  Department of the Ukrainian language, literature and culture Wojciech Zvolinsky with the theme "The specifics of teaching Ukrainians to Polish language." Detailed examples and lively supply of specific terms and processes of learning Polish language contributed to the further discussion of this report. Third participant of the plenary session, a guest from London, gave a presentation on "Technology and principles of language learning" as a video message and a Power Point presentation with audio soundtrack.

 

Further presentations and discussions were held at the session meeting, which was managed by  Ya.S.Grischenko, PhD on philological sciences, Senior Teacher, DELTO №1. She prepared a report on "Linguistic basis of foreign language teaching in technical universities." Teachers and graduate students FL: A.M.Volodko, T.L.Korshuk, N.V.Chizhova, I.I.Antonenko, O.Yu.Chugay, M.V.Shevchenko and others presented their researches and reports. All conference participants received materials in print or electronic form. Members and guests of the conference confirmed the positive developments in the reform of education in Ukraine, interest of professors and graduate students in professional development, focus on modern methods and technology training.

October 29, 2014 the Department of English and technical direction №1 organized and conducted scientific-practical seminar "Social and environmental problems of the present concept of sustainable development in Ukraine and the world." Students of 1-2 courses of all faculties were invited to participate. They prepared reports in English on the themes: the problems of water resources, global warming, degradation of land resources and even ecology of consciousness - the problem of greed, selfishness people pollute the world in which they live and their children will live. Their teachers helped them to prepare reports and presentations. The results of this collaboration can be viewed in the electronic book, prepared by the organizing committee. For presentation at the workshop  14 of the best reports from departments that are covered by DELTO №1, DELTO №2, DELHO  №3 were selected.

The workshop began with T.A.Nguen’s report "Solar energy". K.Zhivatovska raised the problem of soil degradation in Ukraine. Students G.Berezovsky, E.Bulgakov, A.Yasinetsky presented the results of research problems of water resources and waste in Ukraine and considered all the "pros and cons" of using shale gas. M.Puhova began her report with rhetorical question "Why is our planet dying because of ecological problems if environment friendly approach are so popular nowadays?"

M.Latonina make the listener think about the rational use of land resources in the Ukraine, and E.Viter chose to report very special theme "Biosensor Techniques in Ecological research". I.Pecheritsa report raised many questions, because it was dedicated to the safe use of nuclear energy and nuclear power plants. M.Hamrovsky spoke about the new technology of special types of billboards, which helps cleanse the air. One such billboard can replace 1,200 trees. Global warming has become the subject of a report T.Nauhatska. I.Shevchenko prepared a presentation about the recycling of industrial waste on the results of studies of groundwater and the water of the Dnieper, contaminated with zinc salts in the south east of Cherkassy. Students D.Sich and M.Pitaylo presented "The amazing alternative ways of energy" and "Towards ecological consciousness". Topical issues that have arisen during the presentations, were discussed  by all present – representatives of all departments, where technical and humanitarian English is taught. Students expressed a desire in the next year to take part in such an event. For everyone on the site DELTO №1 there is video report of  the conference.
