November 27, regular scientific readings from the series "Outstanding designers of Ukraine" were held in the hall of the Scientific Park "Kyiv Polytechnic". They were dedicated to the centenary of the birth of General Designer engines medium power for agricultural machinery Ivan A. Koval (1914 - 2007).
Traditionally, the organizer of the readings was State Polytechnic Museum NTUU "KPI".
Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, holder of 3 orders of Red Banner of Labor, Lenin Prize winner, Hero of Socialist Labor Ivan Koval made a great contribution to the development of domestic agricultural. A graduate of Zaporozhye Aviation College and Kharkov Aviation Institute he initiated and participated in the creation of the first Soviet Combine diesel CMD-7 ("Hammer and Sickle, diesel, seven"). The name of the engine if from the Kharkiv Engine Plant "Hammer and Sickle", in which the Design Bureau this development has been done, and in which Ivan Koval worked more than 40 years. With his participation for the first time in the USSR it was developed unified light-speed economical diesel SMD-14 and a whole range of other engines that have been used to caterpillar and wheel tractors, as well as combines for various purposes. It is in the engines developed under the guidance and with the direct participation of Ivan Koval, for the first time in the Soviet Union to increase the power it was used turbocharging.
During his life, I.A.Koval authored 56 inventions, published 130 scientific papers. Scientific publications in which these works were printed, copies of certificates of authorship I.A.Koval, articles and books dedicated to him were presented at two stands, prepared by employees of the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine and Scientific-Technical Library NTUU"KPI" of G.I.Denisenko.
NTUU KPI Vice-Rector for Research, NAS academician Mikhail Ilchenko, who opened the readings and further acted as their host, gave a general description of the creative heritage of outstanding Ukrainian engineer and scientist.
Participants of the readings (and they were teachers, employees NTUU "KPI" and other Ukrainian universities and, of course, students) heard a lof of new from the director of the museum of the National Aerospace University of Zhukovsky «Kharkiv Aviation Institute" Elena Kuzmenko. She made a report "Alma Mater (HAI) in the years of study I.A.Koval (1935-1941)", where she touched the history of HAI and features of the educational process in the years when Ivan Koval was studying there.
The daughter of Ivan A. Koval Associate Professor, National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" Elena Linnik shared with the audience her memories of the father. According to her, she wanted to tell "not about achievements of her father, as about the difficulties on the way of these achievement." Therefore, the participants heard excited and very interesting story about an outstanding personality.
The head of the department at the State Polytechnic Museum NTUU "KPI" Gregory Luparenko made a report "Personal contribution of I.A.Koval to the development diesel engines while in DSKBD (1949-1987)", dedicated to a fruitful period of the General Designer .
Finally, the mechanical engineer of Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University Victor Demeschuk informed about the contribution of Ivan Koval in the development of domestic engine and increasing of combines' productivity.
