On February 11-13, 2014 the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kiev Polytechnic Institute" was visited by the President of the Polish educational fund "Perspective", co-founder of the Polish-Ukrainian Center at NTUU"KPI" Waldemar Sivinsky.
During those days, Sivinsky met with the rector of KPI, Academician of NAS of Ukraine Michael Zgurovsky, First Vice-Rector Academician of NAS of Ukraine Yuri Yakimenko, Vice-Rector for International Relations, a corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine Sergei Sidorenko, deputy director of the Ukrainian-Polish Centre NTUU "KPI" Eugene Ogorodnikov and others. The talks were concerning the problems in 2014, and the areas of cooperation in the framework of Ukrainian-Polish center.
After the official meeting Waldemar Sivinsky also visited a basketball game with participation of the national KPI team, Ukrainian-Polish Centre of NTUU "KPI", visited the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine and the Science Center Polish Academy of Sciences in Kiev.
Finally the Polish guest told readers of the newspaper "Kyiv Polytechnic" about intentions and plans for further cooperation in the field of scientific and educational systems of the Republic of Poland and the Ukraine, in particular KPI.
Broad cooperation with Kyiv Polytechnic restored a few years ago - with the beginning of the work of Ukrainian-Polish Centre at NTUU"KPI". The main objective of the center is to establish Polish-Ukrainian contacts in various industries, in particular in the field of science and student exchanges. The Republic of Poland wants its universities and organizations to be interested in establishing contacts with Ukraine, including KPI. That is why the Polish partners help to organize visits of Polish scientists in the KPI, conduct joint roundtables, academic forums related to important issues of Polish-Ukrainian relations. In recent years, joint seminars were held in Ukraine and Poland. They are planned also for this year. First of all such measures are related to the implementation of the programs of the European Union. Now the EU begins execution of new programs - "Horizon 2014" and "Horizon 2020". There are many features that can be used together as the Polish and Ukrainian universities. This requires good contacts, which further will transform into joint programs, projects, etc..
This year is also expected to meet the rectors of Polish and Ukrainian technical universities with the support of the Polish-Ukrainian center. It is very important to establish contacts at the highest, rector level, because then easier to achieve mutual success.
In 2014, the program of academic mobility of students will also operate. The Republic of Poland intends to continue to help KPI to participate in such programs as "Erasmus Mundus", "Erasmus +". These projects open up new opportunities for students to obtain an elite education, research or internship abroad. Student exchanges have become an integral part of modern education, and their role is only growing every year.
All students wishing to study at Polish universities, are eagerly invited to cooperate. Unfortunately, there are few Polish students who wish to study in Ukraine. Therefore, it is planned in the near future to start such cooperation mechanisms that will help to increase the number of students from Poland.
Football tournament "Studentevro" with participation of Ukrainian and Polish students also will continue in 2014. Athletes will meet in duels for the fifth time. At this time, Ukraine will hold the tournament. Competitions are an important element of the program of international contacts and are very popular among international youth.
KPI is a special university. And the atmosphere here is very special. Poland is pleased to have partnership relations with the university. I am sure that they will broaden every year and will get to a new, higher level, - said Waldemar Sivinsky.
