On 12th of November NTUU "KPI" was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Troy Lulashnik. After a brief introduction to the university and its history, he met with the students, post-graduates and employees of NTUU "KPI" and delivered a lecture on "the Canadian - Ukrainian Relations: Past, present state and the future."
However, it was not so much a lecture, but a frank conversation of plenipotentiary representative of a friendly country with leading Ukrainian university students. Troy Lulashnik has been working for many years as a diplomat, visited 60 countries and thoughts, enriched by his own observations and experience about the present and future perspectives concerning the relations between our countries, were very interesting. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine reminded that Canada was not only the first of the Western Countries, which recognized the independence of Ukraine, but also did much in order to support the democratic development of our country. In particular, Canada has invested more than $ 400 million in technical assistance to Ukraine, in the development of new legislation, in the public service and economic development. Moreover, through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development significant funds Canada has invested in the construction of the shelter - confinement over the destroyed fourth block of the Chernobyl NPP. Indeed, Canada is not a stranger to Ukraine - it is a home to more than 1.2 million citizens with Ukrainian roots, who have greatly contributed to its development.
Troy Lulashnik also spoke about Canada's point of view on Ukraine signing an association agreement with the European Union and the creation of a free trade zone with the EU member states as well as the benefits that will get our country as a result of such a step. First of all - in the creation of a favorable for the development environment with clear, understandable rules of functioning, with absolute supremacy of law, which will result in an increase in confidence in our state, and therefore - and investments in our economy. That ultimately will lead to an overall increase in the welfare of our citizens.
Canadian Ambassador spoke about how important it is for the modern professional possess not only knowledge but also the ability to foresee the consequences of their decisions and actions and work in a team, in which good results are achieved through the joint efforts. “We should go beyond theoretical science, we should go to the application areas and think about what contribution you can make to change the world for the better - said Troy Lulashnik, - after all, you can invent something completely new, but it will need to invest in a real context, consider how this enter the market, resolve legal and a host of other issues. Today necessarily do it themselves. Success is achieved better in a team ...”
Finally, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Troy Lulashnik answered students' questions, concerning the characteristics of the organization of higher education in Canada, the learning environment of students in universities of Ukraine and, again, particularly his views on the preparatory process of signing agreements between Ukraine Association and European Union .
