On the 29th of August 2013 on the Lane of remarkable academics and constructors of the National technical university of Ukraine was held a solemn ceremony due to the opening of the monument to the remarkable constructor of air engines academician of the USSR Academy of Science Major-General-Engineer of aviation Alexander Mikulin (1895-1985), who was studied at the Kiev polytechnic institute.
Alexander Alexandrovich Mikulin came into the history of the world science and technology as one of the founders of development of aviation and motor building in USSR, and also as a creator of chain of reciprocating and turbojet air engines of original construction. These engines were considered the best in the world at that time. Besides that, engines by A. A. Mikulin were used not only in aviation, but also on Fleet and tank forces. The last years of his life A. A. Mikulin was engaged in medical problems and he created his own system of health improvement, which has not lost its topicality even now.
Academician of the USSR Academy of Science A. A. Mikulin was honoured with an honorary title of the Hero of Socialist Labour for his services. He became the prizewinner of the USSR State (Stalin) Prize for four times – in 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1946. He was awarded with The Order of Friendship of Peoples, the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Badge of Honour and other medals.
“Alexander Mikulin – is the person, who became a legend during the life. We are proud that he was studied in 1912-1914 in the Kiev polytechnic institute, - said at the beginning of the ceremony of opening the monument the president of the NTUU "KPI" academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Michael Z. Zgurovsky. – That is why we are opening the monument to Alexander Alexandrovich Mikulin with great pleasure, because this monument will perfectly expand our lane of monuments to the prominent aircraft designers, designers of rocket and cosmic technical devices, who were studied in our university”.
In the ceremony took part the senior adviser of the Embassy of Russia in Ukraine, leader of the group of bilateral and regional cooperation Igor Sevastyanov, chancellor of the Embassy of Russia in Ukraine Irina Tsareva, the first deputy of CEO of The P. I. Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motor Development Viktor Gusev (Russian Federation, Moscow), deputy director The Memorial Museum of Astronautics Yuriy Solomko (Russian Federation, Moscow), author of the monument, Honoured artist of Ukraine sculptor Mykola Oliynik, teachers, scientists, students of the NTUU “KPI” and others.
