Anatoliy Volodymyrovych Skorokhod (10.09.1930 – 3.01.2011) is a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1985), State Prizes of Ukraine in Science and Technology laureate (1982 and 2003). He is the author above 300 articles, 23 monographs, three-volume “The theory of stochastic processes” is among them, which was written together with J.I. Hihmanom. Such his scientific papers as the theories of stochastic differential equations, the boundary theorems for the stochastic processes, distribution in the infinite-dimensional spaces, the stochastic processes statistics, Markov processes. The mathematicians know such notions as Skorokhod topology, Skorokhod integral, Skorokhod space. He made an exceptional contribution into the Ukrainian school of probability theory formation, trained 56 Candidates and 17 PhDs. He had been working in the USA in Michigan State University since 1993 to the last days of his life. Nevertheless, he kept in touch with the Ukrainian NAS Institute of Mathematics.
6 June the seminar in memory of A.V. Skorokhod was held at the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Probability Theory (the Head is Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Oleg Klesov). The seminar was attended by teachers and students of our University, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, The National Pedagogical Dragomanov University, the representatives of Ukrainian NAS Mathematics Institute and other scientific and educational institutions.
Irina Kadyrova, who is his wife and Professor of Michigan University and in due time she had taught maths in KPI, made a report of “A.V. Skorokhod’s Life Pages”. She gave a detailed account of his birth, childhood, youth and turning points of his life. She brightly described his extraordinary personality. Thanks to rather interesting and evidence material and owing to the uncommon oratorical skills the report left an impressive and memorable effect.
