The department was established in 1989. (functioned as a department of general engineering disciplines at the Kyiv branch of the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute named after Ivan Fedorov since 1959).
Trains specialists from the educational program "Computerized polygraphic systems" specialty "Industrial mechanical engineering".
Head: Anatoliy Vasyliovych Shevchuk - doctor of technical sciences, professor, honored worker of the industry of Ukraine.
Qualification of graduates: Bachelor of Engineering (partial higher education); mechanical engineer (higher education); research engineer (higher education).
The main directions of scientific and technical activity: optimization of the construction of printing machines, synthesis of cyclic mechanisms and development of new generation machine designs, including equipment for special types of printing.
Profile disciplines: "Printing machines", "Fundamentals of design", "Mechanics of printing machines and automata", "Automation of printing production", "Repair and operation of printing machines", "Equipment of special types of printing", "Technology of printing machine building", CAD, etc. .
Activities of specialists: engineering and research, design, organizational work, operation and repair of printing equipment, management and service organization.
The main fields of work of the future specialist: printing productions, printing houses and machine-building enterprises (combines, factories; scientific research, design and construction organizations, areas of duplicating equipment and decoration of products, manufacturing of containers and packaging, service centers).
Graduates work in the following positions: workshop mechanics; repair mechanics; organization, operation and repair engineer; occupational health and safety; design engineer; junior researcher; engineer for scientific and technical information, equipment and new technology; manager of machine-building companies, organizer of service stations; assistant and teacher.
The department operates: printing machine and CAD laboratories; educational and demonstration center Heidelberg.
Teachers of the department with many years of experience working with students, supported by personal professional skills, respond in a timely and effective manner to changes in the professional publishing space with appropriate changes in the educational process. In order to improve the entire educational process and ensure the proper qualification of graduates, as well as to join the Bologna process, new curricula are being developed.
Entry into the pan-European space of higher education, within which uniform requirements for the recognition of diplomas on education, employment and mobility of citizens will apply, also involves the introduction of a credit-modular system of education, as well as distance education.
Students receive thorough and modern training in the design, operation and research of printing equipment, automation and complex mechanization of printing processes, diagnostics and monitoring of printing machines and equipment, study technology and methods of service organization.
The department maintains creative and practical ties with printing enterprises of Ukraine, Germany, and Poland, and is a participant in international exhibitions "Polygraphy". The leading companies of the world take an active part in the creation and support of laboratories of modern equipment and technology. Branches of the department at SE "Press of Ukraine" and OJSC "Kyivpoligrafmash" provide a cycle of disciplines in uniform, printing and brochure-binding equipment. Students undergo internships at factories for the production of printing machines of the companies "Heidelberg" and "KVA" (Germany) and at modern enterprises of Ukraine.
