The festival is named in honor of the famous aircraft designer, from Kiev in origin, former student of the «Kiev Polytechnic Institute» after Igor Sikorsky. Therefore, the logo of the festival is his hat – a constant attribute and, according to legend, the talisman with which the great innovator of the twentieth century never parted.
The festival is held all-Ukrainian competition of startups «Sikorsky Challenge 2016» and the contest «Intel-Techno Ukraine 2016-2017» – the national stage of the International competition scientifically-technical creativity of students «Intel ISEF». In General, the participants of both competitions were presented at the festival about 300 creations on various subjects. Active participation in the festival also accept young researchers of the National center «Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine», they presented an exhibition of youth innovative projects «Future of Ukraine».
Ukrainian competition of startups "Sikorsky Challenge 2016", which, in fact, gave the name to the festival, and this year began on 25 April. After pre-selection and training in the finals of the 50 projects. They will be appreciated by the authoritative international jury. The authors and groups of authors of projects-winners of the startup competition will have the opportunity to realize their projects in the Science Park «Kyiv Polytechnics» with the support of grant funds and venture capital funds. By the way, statistics show that from year to year, the total amount of investments is growing: in 2011, the winners received on the implementation of their projects 180 thousand UAH, in 2015 – 573 million!
The contest «Intel-Techno Ukraine 2016-2017» - the national stage of the International competition scientifically-technical creativity of schoolchildren is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. The festival will be determined finalists of this contest. They will have the opportunity to work with scientists in the laboratories of the national technical University of Ukraine «KPI after. Igor Sikorsky» and institutes of the NAS of Ukraine on the improvement of its development to the best of them in May 2017 could adequately represent Ukraine at the world final of the competition «Intel ISEF» in Los Angeles (USA). It should be noted that when determining the winners the jury members will assess not only the scientific level of projects, but also those features that increase the chances of winning the Intel ISEF, including presentation and communication skills of the contestants, logical thinking, English proficiency, independence and completeness of the projects.
The General partner of the festival is Ukreximbank, partners and sponsors of the Kiev city state administration, the Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine, as well as dozens of international corporations, world-famous companies, leading investment companies, investment funds and venture capital funds and others.
The official opening ceremony of the festival took place in the Center of culture and arts University. Festival participants welcomed the Deputy head of the presidential Administration of Ukraine Dmytro Shymkiv, the Deputy of Ukraine Dmitry Andrievsky, Director of the representative office of Intel in Ukraine Dmitry Kalita and founder of the national stage of the competition Intel Ukraine Tatyana Nanaeva and, of course, the rector of the National technical University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute after Igor Sikorsky» academician of NAS of Ukraine Michael Zgurovsky. «We have five years of conducting the festival «Sikorsky Challenge», and in this format we were able to cover inventors from almost all regions of Ukraine in various areas of engineering!», – he stressed.
However the program of the ceremony was provided not only official performances. The participants of the festival saw a bright laser shows and performances of artistic groups of the University. There was even a special guest, or guest – finalist of the contest «Voice of country», a multiple laureate of national and international competitions, the singer Juliana Sparrow.
Interestingly, the leading celebrations in the Centre of culture and arts of the CRPD was the people who have the most direct attitude to competition Intel and KPI after. Igor Sikorsky – University students Chan Phuong Anh – last year's winner of the contest «Intel-Techno Ukraine» in the category «Mathematics», the bronze prize-winner of the World final of the competition «Intel ISEF» in 2016 and the winner of special award of the American mathematical society and Michael Litovchenko – the winner of the competition «Intel-Eco Ukraine» in 2014 and silver winner of the World final of the competition «Intel ISEF» 2014 in the category «Energy and transport».
It should be noted that events began even before its official opening – morning in the Center of innovative entrepreneurship, the University hosted the international forum of participants of innovation ecosystem of Ukraine. It was dedicated to the dissemination of the experience accumulated in the KPI them. Igor Sikorsky's experiences living and successful commercialization of research ideas and innovation in other Ukrainian universities. This experience was acquired during the hard work. «In four years, more than forty start-UPS that are born in our innovation environment, has received financial support from investors. Eight startups have created their start-up companies that are working and taking their products to market in Ukraine and abroad, – said at the opening ceremony of the forum, Director General, Science Park «Kyiv Polytechnics» Vladimir gnat. – It should be noted that there are startups that have not stood the test of cooperation with investors, work on business plans, over forecasting their cash flow (cash flow). But this experience for us, perhaps, more interesting and more important...». The forum included three panel discussions: «the Creation of a network of startup schools at universities as the basis for the development of an innovative ecosystem of Ukraine», «Business incubators and accelerators: problems and prospects start parsing movement» and «Established companies and startups changing: the possibilities inherent in the interaction».
The participants and guests of the festival also had the opportunity to see a presentation on «Space achievements Kyiv Polytechnic», which was held at the State Polytechnic Museum at the University, as well as two of the exposure in the Center of culture and arts of NTUU «KPI after Igor Sikorsky» – the schoolchildren-participants of the contest «Intel-Techno Ukraine 2016-2017» and the already mentioned exhibition of the winning projects of the contest of youth innovative projects «Future of Ukraine».
So there are two days of hard work the participants: presentation of projects and their protection before the jury and pitch session, And a number of interesting activities which provided for organizers: exhibition of drawings «Science through the eyes of children», presentation of the team «Formula student KPI» and developed by sports cars, the meeting of young participants of the festival with the academicians of the NAS of Ukraine, Museum quest-surprise at the State Polytechnic Museum at NTUU «KPI after Igor Sikorsky» and others.
And the winners of both competitions will be announced in the Centers of culture and arts of KPI after Igor Sikorsky during the closing ceremony on 14 October at 11.00. Then participants will learn about the amount of investment, they will receive the winning projects.
[11 -14/10/2016] Anniversary festival «Sikorsky Challenge 2016»
From October 11 to October 14 the Fifth Festival of innovative projects «Sikorsky Challenge 2016» will take place in National technical university of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv polytechnic institute».
The purpose of the festival is to define the most interesting and the most relevant projects in various fields of technology and promote the best ones in their commercialization, startups activity, and introducing innovative projects into the national and international markets. Not only outstanding specialists and white haired professors take part in the festival but students and schoolchildren that are choosing line in their lives as well. Thus, the age rage of its participants is quite large: the youngest participant is 13 while the oldest is 80!
International forum of the participants of innovative system and panel discussion with participation of international specialists, «Space achievements of Kyiv polytechnics», startups competition «Sikorsky Challenge», intel-techno Ukraine 2016-2017 (projects by categories: mathematics, physics and astronomy, engineering, power production, robotics technology and smart machines, computer sciences), «Educational Academy Intel», Doors Open Day at the university as well «Science picnics», «Children scientific studios of SAS», pictures exhibition «Science in children's eyes» and many other things are the part of the festival program.
Author's collectives of winning projects of the Startup competition will have a chance to realize their projects in the environment of Scientific Park «Kyiv polytechnics» with the assistance of grant and venture funds. Super-finalists of "Intel-Techno Ukraine 2016-2017» competition will be able to improve their developments with scientists in laboratories of NTUU «Igor Sikorsky KPI" and institutes of Ukrainian NAS, the best of which will be presenting Ukraine at the World Competition Final «Intel ISEF" in Los Angeles (California, USA).
In October, 11 the exhibition of projects created by inventive schoolchildren will be hold in Center of culture and art of NTUU «Igor Sikorsky KPI» from 14.00.
