A lot of new initiatives were conceived at KPI which then spread to other universities. One more pleasant and useful innovation is the opening of a new room for children, where student families can leave their children for a while under the care of day-care assistants. This is a new significant step in improving the living of student families, which have an aim to come into their own by rationally joining time for studying and family.
A qualified day-care assistant (psychologist) works with children and in this room they are not only under care but also become acquainted with each other, meet friends, play learning games.
Every day there are a classical music hour, an art hour and a physical education hour. Also a group for school preparation "АБВГдейка" began its work. There 4-5 years old children take their first lessons of maths, logics, conversation skills, prepare for writing and reading by playing games. The room for children is open from Monday to Friday, work hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This room is free of charge.
The parents talk about this room: «This room for children became for us an Alladin’s lamp. Here we can not only leave our children but also get qualified advices about bringing them up».
«We are very pleased with the work of the day-care assistants, who find an approach to children, can make them interested in. My daughter attends the room for children with a great pleasure». (Lera’s mother, 3,5 years). «It is a pity that this room were not organized before, it would be so useful. Children have an opportunity to communicate in case of bad weather, they learn how to get on well with each other. The day-care assistants are very friendly and you want to return here again and again». (Mother Maryna, brings up two sons).
The innovation is implemented with the initiative of campus management and with the help of student trade-union committee of KPI, a member of Ukrainian parliament Dmitriy Andrievskiy, a trade-union committee of KPI staff, Kiev local organization Trade-union of the scientific and educational employees of Ukraine and others. With their help the room repaired by campus was quickly filled with all needed equipment: the tables, chairs, shelves, kitchen, sofa, baskets for toys, playground, dry basin and LSD TV set.
It is the unique project of this kind among Kiev universities. We can see that it is useful and successful as both parents and children are pleased with this room. We hope that in the nearest future other universities bring in such projects.
