Third of a century is not very significant period of time in the history of the KPI, but for a single department it can be considered as strategic one and achievements - significant. During this time, the name of the department has been changed, which was previously named as the department of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems. Many mechanical engineers, graduates of previous years, have become the leading specialists who have established their firms, received the rank of associate professors and professors who launched new research areas.
Achievements
The start of extensive research at the department came in 1978, when Professor. O.M.Yahno led the team. The track record of the head, which included study at the University of Shevchenko, consisted of military service, graduate school, thesis, work associate professor in KPI, the foundation of the "fluid mechanics" at the Technical University (Gabrovo), has been the foundation that has allowed the department to initiate the movement direction of the developing today.
For more than three decades at the department over 30 Ph.D. theses were prepared, including nationals of Algeria, Syria, Iraq, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Iran; 11 doctoral theses were defended, 4 of which are inmates of the Department; more than two dozen books and manuals were published. Gradually, the Department has become the central in Ukraine in its profile. Scientific seminars in the fields ""Hydraulic and Pneumatic Equipment"" "Mechanics of liquid, gas and plasma"" "System Drive"" "Equipment and machinery chemical industry"" and" "Theoretical engeneering" gained the status of permits for special council for the defense of doctoral theses. Working outside the department, namely on the position of deputy chairman of the advisory council of SCADT industry, in the educational and scientific union in the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, in three specialized councils formed for thesis defense requirements and to scientific publications of department. The key seminar issue was one of the lines of expert opinion: Say in a sentence, for what you are to be assigned a degree of candidate or doctor of technical sciences?
Openness to dialogue, promotion of achievements, no fear of the latest technology and foreign schools of thought culminated in international recognition - agreements on cooperation with Festo, Rexroth, University "Wroclaw Polytechnic" Habrovsky specifications; student internships in Germany (Hawe, Rexroth), participation in scientific conferences in Estonia, Poland, Germany, Latvia, Bulgaria, participation in international competitions of student work. The recent events - works commissioned by the University of Texas and part for taking part in the contract "Ukratom" with the European Union. During more active industrial development center "KPI-fest" and direction "Mechanotronics in engineering" was based, but during the general slowing traffic department was expanded to ELECTRO laboratories and control systems.
Weekdays
When the head has been asked about the style of his work, we got the answer: "I'm trying not to disturb anyone ". In the team work research groups enrich each other with their views, trends, preferences. Different views are becoming meaningful additions, so-called system balancing.
If a person is engaged in an interesting work (such people stay at the department), he or she will by themself cope with the most difficult task, and there is only a need in support and understanding. For sustainable development there is no need in negative feedback - "I’m providing" "I do not allow" the driving force of a positive response, which allows everyone to focus on their activities and abilities, is the most useful for the department and an interesting direction. The best manifestation of this "positive" feedback can be considered as the head of the department of communication with students and graduate students. No question is left without attention, it is assented with a common strategy for solving, it is consistent - a student feels that he has found the perfect solution and the department supports it. Such cooperation is the key to creative mood of students and teachers, responsible attitude to their role in the life of the department. An illustration of the above, for example, is working on upgrading laboratories in 2011. Then KPI has taken the piece of equipment that was transferred from the Center of retraining. On New Year’s Eve in 2012 more than 60 students of the faculty for the first call were engaged in transportation and installation of new equipment. Students are worried if department has time to learn a new technique even during their training, whether they have time to read the "STEP-5", which is proportional to the difference between analog and digital hydraulics, electronics and mechanics and more.
Principles
Just as the thesis must be completed by conclusion and even better – by the new laws mentioned in 35-year study of hydraulics and pneumatics, formed principles of the department, "support", "do not stop", "hesitate".
" Support" . In tough times thanks to the joint support an international conference "fluid mechanics in engineering practice" was launched together with related departments of Vinnitsa, Sumy, Luhansk, Donetsk, Lviv and Kharkiv. Its work, seminars with the examination of completed dissertation research, cooperation with "Festo", "Reksrot" association "Hydrosila", the branch of the Institute of Hydromechanics of NAS of Ukraine, working with Bureau "Antonov" attracted new participants and conference turned into a kind of expert council of scientific and practical achievements.
>"do Do not stop>" . By this scenario, not obeying to the fashion or guidelines on faculty, new research directions appeared at the department. It is a combination of e-government with the properties of liquid cavitation technologies; information technology and energy flows in cyclically-modular models; theory systems and hydraulic and pneumatic control systems in structural synthesis; rheological properties of the fluids to the terms of use of the new hydraulic and hydro-mechanical models; coherent structures in confined flow vortex apparatus; circuitry and hydraulic drive in computer-aided design. Each course was completed by doctoral dissertation. Every hydraulic specialist knows about Bernoulli: motion stop is a rise in potential energy, which leads to increased pressure and tension in the team, which is not improving the work of the department.
"Hesitate" . The absence of doubt, confidence in their own right - it is the very first sign of a large brain stops both for individuals and collective, and in general in any case. Fortunately, a number of examples of undoubted innocence in the work of the department is limited as the lack of free time and desire to defend it. Each teacher-researcher with his interesting case provides movement for the development of department. Perhaps because of it Department is annually rated as the first in the KPI.
Future
Future is our students who were invited to work in the offices of major foreign companies in Ukraine to continue their studies in Germany, USA, Russia; young teachers and scientists who yesterday acquired knowledge in the laboratories of the Department; Students who were invited to a cohort of designers SE "Antonov" before graduation. This is Bachelors of other universities that annually come to us for training. This is a team of students in 9 specialties from 12 universities who come to the training of school "Mechanotronics in engineering" for communication, education, formation strategy.
We hope that the example of the Department of Applied fluid mechanics and mechanotronics headed for 35 years by Oleg Yahnom will not remain without attention of teachers and researchers.
