Nina Opanasivna Virchenko (5/5/1930, Zavadivka, Korsun-Shevchenko district, Cherkasy region) - Ukrainian scientist, mathematician, Doctor of Sciences (01/13/1989), Professor (28/06/1990), Academician of Academy of Sciences HS of Ukraine (1998). Vice-president of the AS of Higher School of Ukraine (2004-2010).

She studied at KSU Shevchenko (1946-1948; 1956-1961). In the 1948-1954 she was the political prisoner (East Siberia). In 1954-1956 she taught mathematics and physics in secondary schools in Ukraine. After finishing graduate school at KSU Shevchenko in 1964 defended her candidate dissertation, and in 1988 - her doctoral thesis. She worked as an assistant professor at KSU Shevchenko (1965-1973), the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (1974-1989), from 1990 - Professor of Mathematics NTUU "KPI". From 1963 to this day she controls Scientific Workshop "Boundary-value problems", "Special functions", "Differential equations and their applications" and so on. She is the organizer of the International Scientific Conferences named after the Academician M.Kravchuk (1992-2010).

The sphere of her research interests included - theory of mixed boundary value problems, theory of generalized analytic functions, integral transformations, singular differential equations with partial derivatives, special features, history and methodology of mathematics and so on.

She authored more than 350 scientific and methodological publications, including 20 books published in Ukrainian, Russian, English and Japanese.

She is the Soros Professor (1997), the winner of the 1st prize NTUU "KPI" (1998), Distinguished Lecturer NTUU "KPI" (1999), Honorary Professor of NTUU "KPI" (2005). Member of Shevchenko, Ukrainian, American, Belgian, Australian, Edinburgh, London Mathematical Society. Chairman of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ukrainian Society of political prisoners and repressed.

N. Virchenko is the Winner of the Award Yaroslav the Wise AS of HS Ukraine (1999, 2005). Medal "Builder of Ukraine" from "Prosvita" (2001). She is the Honored worker of Ukraine (2006), she has the distinction of Education of Ukraine "Petro Mohyla" (2007), diploma (Cambridge) «Leading Scientist of the world - 2010" award Saint Vladimir's Academy HS Ukraine (2010).
She is the Academician-Secretary of the Department of Mathematics since 1998.
