Not so many people can unite the work with the hobby, to lead the collective and focus on the family, to cut the grass in the garden and continuously develop in the specialty, to write the books and train the experts of higher qualification.

If you will add, that this man is working at the FIDE of NTUU “KPI”, is respected by colleagues, and usually named by students as the best teacher of the department, then anybody at FIDE will tell you, that this man is Valentin Georgievich Kolobrodov.

Valentin Georgievich was born June 19, 1947 in the village Bilovodsk, Voroshilovgrads province. After graduation the Shevchenko State University of Kyiv on the specialty “radio physics and electronics”, he was at the military service in 1970-1972. His further working activity he connected with Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Valentin Georgievich was enrolled in the post graduate training here in 1972-1975, then worked here as an assistant, then assistant professor, professor (professor rang he got in 1995) of the Optical and optoelectronic devices department. In 1997 he defended his doctoral dissertation.
From his 41 year of working activity 35 years he works in KPI. During these years he published near 150 scientific papers, including 9 manuals, 13 methodical books, 3 monographs. He got 40 author’s certificates. His books are printed not only in Ukraine but also at China, Germany. His manual “Thermal imaging systems” by the decision of Academic Council NTUU “KPI” was recognized as the best in the contest 2001 year. The manual “Design of the thermal imaging and television systems of surveillance” got the high praise of the experts optics and electronics instrumentation and recommendation to translate it in Russian.

Today professor V.G.Kolobrodov is the known expert in thermal vision, infrared technics, surveillance optical electronic systems including space-based, metrology of optical and electronic systems. Under his heading there were done 50 research works, including 12 by the directives of the Military Production Complex USSR, Cabinet of the Ministers USSR and Ukraine..
Valenting Georgievich prepared one doctor of technical sciences and five candidates. He is scientific advisor of three doctorants and head of three postgraduates.

Professor V.G.Kolobrodov for 12 years worked in the admission committee KPI. He was deputy of the FIDE dean on educational work, worked in experts’ committee of Attestation Committee of Ukraine. He is the member of two special councils of Attestation Committee of Ukraine on defense candidate’s and doctor’s dissertations, one of the editors the international scientific and technical magazine “Artillery and small guns”.

The main achievement of V.G.Kolobrodov as the manager is the collective of Optical and optoelectronic devices department. The goodwill of Valentin Georgievich combined with prudent personnel policy helped to create a climate that promotes the efficient work of all employees. Under his leadership, there were created and published methodological developments from all disciplines which were taught in the department, there were developed several new techniques that significantly improve the efficiency of the educational process.

Students respect Valentin Georgievich not only for his higher professionalism, but also for his sensitive attitude to them. It should be noted, that he read lectures not only to the Ukrainian students but also in China, Hungary and Germany universities.
In 1998 professor V.G.Kolobrodov was awarded the sign “The excellent of the Ukraine education” and in 2002 and 2006 - Thanks of Kyiv Mayor. He was the winner of the contest “The teacher-researcher -2006”.

In occasion of the jubilee we wish Valentin Georgievich Kolobrodov health, creativity, new successes in the research.
