In the 80 years of the twentieth century. progress in electronics need new professionals able to design and create electronic equipment on modern element base. In 1985 at the Faculty of Electroacoustics in KPI the department of design and production of computer equipment was established. Later as part of The Faculty of Electronics it received a new name - "The department of designing of computer hardware." Now the department is celebrating its 30th anniversary with this new name.
At the time of creation of scientific and pedagogical staff of the department, it consisted of members of the department of microelectronics and computer-aided design. Among the founders of the department were Y. M. Kalnibolotskyy (the first head of the department), V. S. Rohoza, V. F. Lyeskin, Y. A. Rymakov, V. F. Smishko, V. M. Bondarenko, OI .Lysenko, M. O. Teroshyn, P. V. Kuchernyuk and others. In the summer of 1985 the first intake of students to the new specialty "Production of electronic media " was conducted.
Since the establishment of the department the staff have been providing not only the educational process for a new profession, but they have been ensuring active scientific work and have been collaborating with leading electronic enterprises of Ukraine and other Soviet republics. The department was formed two research groups: led by Yu.M. Kalnibolotskyy and V.S.Rohoza. GMP "Crystal", Research Institute "Saturn" , NPO "Electronmash", NPO named after S.P. Koroleva , Kyiv radio plant "Graviton" and SCB "Crystal" (c. Chernovtsy), NGO "Monolith" (Belarus), NGO "Istok" (Russia) - is not a complete list of companies where research and engineering development department staff implemented in the production of computer equipment.
Speaking about the formation of department, it should be noted a first significant contribution of its head, he was a prominent scientist, Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Honored Professor of NTUU "KPI", scholar of the State Scholarship of the President of Ukraine Ph.D., professor Yu. M. Kalnibolotskyy .
Students appreciate Yuri Maksimovic especially for his high intelligence, compassion, caring, ability to choose the "key" to each person and ability to unleash his/ her talents and skills. And according to memory about this outstanding man a department staff decided to assign a name Yu.M. Kalnibolotskyy to Laboratory of Information Technologies.
Years passed. The scientific and pedagogical potential of the department is constantly replenished with new employees. In particular, we note laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and Ukraine in Science and Technology Dr., prof. B.V.Tkachuka, who for many years was the supervisor and chief designer for about 30 R & D Institute "Saturn". Their findings were widely used in the creation of television and radio broadcasting via satellites. New impetus was Microprocessor direction of students from coming to the department leading specialist NPO named after Sergeya Koroleva V. P. Kornyeva, who helped design the first domestic personal computers "Neuron" and was the chief designer of control systems based on microcomputers. An important contribution to the department did A.P.Miroshnychenko, author of 10 patents of Ukraine, France, Britain and the United States; V.A.Savatyev and L.M.Pavlov, I.V.Redko, P.O.Yahanov, N.O.Bondarenko and others.
In 2001 at the department of scientific laboratory initiative created under the direction of art. teacher, now a PhD. P. O. Yahanova and O.V. Bohdana, the purpose of which was the introduction of the newest computer technologies for processing and identification of images. Among the students who started a scientific way in the laboratory, it should be noted V. H. Dzyubu (now represents the Department in the US), O. M. Nerusa (now the director of "Infomedia") and O. V. Polunina. The development of these young scientists were presented at the VII and VIII International specialized exhibition of systems and means of safety and the III International specialized exhibition remedies weapons and special equipment.
A new stage in the development department begins with the arrival in 2007 of a new head - prof. Alexander Nikolaevich Lysenko. The department created a new scientific school "Electronic computational tools," founder and supervisor of which he is.
Productive international cooperation with leading companies in electronics starts with Altera (USA) and Texas Instruments (USA), educational-scientific laboratory Digital Lab is created. At its base the activities of the Official Centre of education technology design company Altera products in Ukraine are provided and in the international university program firm Texas Instruments - educational laboratory activities mentioned companies. In 2010-2011 on the invitation of the European representative of Texas Instruments Lab, Digital Lab of 20 leading DSP-world laboratories involved in the testing of the new academic material S5000 BETA Test ROM, which then become available to more than 1,200 universities. At the beginning of 2010 within a joint Korean-Ukrainian project KOISA representatives of the department took part in the creation of IT-SoC lab training center IT technologies NTUU "KPI", where in recent years classes have been conducted with students of the department.
In November 2010 the educational-scientific center " Thrifty manufacturing " was created (Head - O. M. Lysenko, Technical Director - O. I. Lysenko). The main direction of the Center is the introduction of modern methods of business management based on international standards of ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001, ISO50001, ISO22000 and so on. In 2012 Centre have passed the International Accreditation as the official consultant for the implementation of management systems for SMEs Programme EBRD Business Advisory Services (BAS) Ukraine. Since 2013 Centre is co-Nations Programme UNIDO for the implementation of clean technologies in Ukraine. In the framework of international cooperation carried out work on implementation of energy management in 16 companies of Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Since 2013 for international educational and scientific seminars become a tradition at the department. Every year during the IEEE International Scientific and Technical Conference "Electronics and Nanotechnology" leading specialists of the department conduct 2 seminars with demonstration of original technical solutions based on SoC, ARM and DSP technologies with the participation of domestic enterprises and foreign experts, including Germany, Italy, of Denmark Georgia. The department was adequately represented at the First Sino-Ukrainian forum of science and technology in China, which was in Harbin Institute of Technology in June 2015
Since March 2013 an Art. teacher Ye. V. Korotkyy started teaching students technology digital design and test of integrated circuits Melexis (Belgium) in joint educational and scientific laboratory "KPI" - Melexis.
In 2014 at the initiative of Art. teacher, Ph.D. Ye.V.Korotkoho in the laboratory of analog and digital electronics department an open laboratory electronics Lampa was created, in which students of the department, faculty and university after studying can study electronics, create prototypes diploma and course projects and develop their own projects from start-up with the use of electronic modules Arduino Leonardo, Intel Galileo, Intel Edison, STM32 Discovery, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBoneBlack, ASLK-PRO and many others.
The high level of training in the department indicates that only in the last 5 years, 21 students of the department was the winner of university, national and international student competitions. In 2009-2011years The department organized Ukrainian student olimpiadof discipline "Programming microprogram machines and microcontroller systems." More than 40 schools team from all over Ukraine participated in these annual competitions . Participation in competitions for many students was the impetus for creating their own original projects.
The department works closely with the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Associate Professor P.O.Yahanov is chairman of the jury of the second stage for the city Kyiv and he is a member of the jury of the third section of the final stage of the "Electronics and Instrumentation"- it is All-Ukrainian competition with protection students research Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
