Alexey Hryhorovych Ivakhnenko (03.30.1913, Kobeliaky - 16.10.2007, Kyiv) - an outstanding scientist in the field of automatic control, computer science and mathematical modeling. Corresponding Member of the USSR (1961), Ukrainian ademician (16 May 2003 specialty: Informatics). Honored Scientist of the USSR (1972), twice laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine (1991, 1997).

  • 1932 - graduated from Kyiv energy technical college. He worked as an engineer in the Urals, in the Bereznyakivs’k TPP, the largest building in the USSR. Here he at first tried in practice to set-up automatic adjustment of the steam generators and boilers of high pressure which determined the direction of future research interests.
  • 1933 - studied to be a sea captain at the Odessa nautical institute.
  • 1934 to 1938 - he had been studying at the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute (LETI). He got destination to Moscow to the All-Union Electrotechnical Institute, where he worked on the problems of automatic control laboratory under the leadership of S.O. Lebedev. He published his first scientific article on the thermopiles in 1938.
  • 1943 - defended his Thesis for a Candidate's Degree.
  • 1944 - returned to Kyiv after the liberation of Ukraine, at first worked as a senior researcher at the USSR Institute of structural mechanics, then - at the USSR Institute of Energy.
  • In 1945 received the science degree of Senior Scientist.
  • Since 1945 - Senior Lecturer of automation and teleautomatics of KPI, then he became a part-time professor in 1958.
  • Since 1947 - Senior researcher at the USSR Institute of Electrical Engineering.
  • 1953 - awarded the medal "For Excellence in Labour"
  • 1954 – defended his doctorate thesis.
  • 1956 - received the title of Professor and became the head of the Laboratory of automatic control of production processes of the USSR Institute of Electrical Engineering.
  • In 1961 he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR.
  • Since 1962 - Head of Technical Cybernetics of USSR Electrics Institute.
  • In 1963 – started to work together with its employees for another institution - USSR Institute of Cybernetics at the invitation of Glushkov. The department of combined management systems was managed by Oleksiy Hryhorovych in 1989
  • 1969 - awarded the medal "For Valiant Labor"
  • 1988 - awarded the Order of "National cohesion ".
  • Since 1989 – he is a chief research worker, since 1995 – Directorate advisor of the Ukrainian Institute of Cybernetics.
  • 1991 - State Prize of Ukraine for his work on the theory of invariance automatic systems
  • Since 1997 – he is a Directorate advisor of the one of the institutions of the Ukrainian Cyber Center of - International Research and Training Center of Information Technologies and Systems of NAS and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
  • 1997 - State Prize of Ukraine for the cycle of works on information technology in the field of artificial intelligence.

O. H. Ivahnenko developed new principles and the automatic speed control of electric motors and calculation systems with magnetic amplifiers. His achievements are universally recognized in the theory of invariability and the theory of automatic control systems combination which operate on the principle of measurable disturbances compensation.
