Dnipropetrovsk National University after Oles Honchar was founded in August 1918, thanks to the persistent efforts of local intellectuals and support outstanding scientists Ukrainian Vernadsky, D.I.Bahaliya, M.P.Vasylenka, L. PISARZHEVSKOGO, where the request was made decision to open the University of four faculties: Historical-Philological, law, medical and physical-mathematical.
The University is proud of the whole galaxy of prominent scientists - Academicians and Corresponding Members of the National Academies of Sciences of Ukraine, Russia and other countries, professors, whose original ideas and research potential of enriched Soviet science, gained national and international recognition. Among them - H.V.Kurdyumov, V.I.Danylov, I.Y.Ohiyevetskyy, S.M.Nikolskyy, D.O.Svirenko, O.M.Dynnyk, L. PISARZHEVSKIY, D.Yavornitskiy , V.S.Budnyk, T.F.Herasyuta, V.I.Mossakovskyy, O.L.Belhard, A.P.Travlyeyev, I.F.Kovalova, V.P.Motornyy and many others.
Thanks to the efforts of leading scientists and all professors and teaching staff at the university created and successfully developing well-known schools in mathematics, mechanics, radio physics and electronics, rocketry, neurocybernetics, biotechnology, inorganic chemistry, historiography and source, Ukraine's history, archeology , Germanic, literature- linguistics and so on. The achievements of university scientists noted numerous government and industry awards, prizes, grants foreign scientific and educational institutions.
Dnipropetrovsk National University graduates working in various fields of Ukraine, CIS, headed by state institutions, educational and scientific structures, industrial associations, cultural centers, media. University today - a university of IV level of accreditation multidisciplinary educational and scientific complex, where there are 15 faculties, 3 centers of education, postgraduate and doctoral studies, 3 research institutes, 90 faculties. The structure also includes five university colleges (engineering, teaching, rocket and space engineering, economics and business, industrial) preparatory courses (including foreigners), Regional Centre of Continuing Education "Dnepr", 2 high schools (at DNU) etc.
