Chyzhenko Ivan Myronovych (born in 1916 to a peasant family in the Kyiv region) - PhD, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the theoretical foundations of electrical engineering (1950-1989), Vice-Rector (1959-1969) Advisor to the Rector of the KPI (since 1989), Honored Researcher of the USSR (1974). He was awarded the Order of Lenin (1961), winner of the Lenin Prize of the USSR (1962), Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1982).
Chyzhenko’s work experience began in 1931. He graduated the school of factory apprenticeship. In 1935 Ivan Myronovych joined the KPI. In 1940 he graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, then worked as an engineer in the central high voltage laboratory Dniproenergo.
From 1941 to 1945 Ivan Myronovych Chyzhenko took part in the battles of the Great Patriotic War, making a glorious way from the Volga to the Elbe and Prague. He was awarded two Orders of the Patriotic War II degree, Order of Red Star, military medals.
After demobilization from the Soviet Army Ivan Myronovych returned to scientific and teaching activities at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute, having risen from assistant to professor. In 1949 he defended his PhD in 1963 - his doctoral thesis.
He created a scientific school in valve-transforming technology. For the development of compensatory converters, I.M.Chyzhenko in 1962 was awarded the Lenin Prize of the USSR.
50 candidates and doctors defended their thesis under his leadership. More than 20 thousand students attended his lectures.
He has published more than 300 scientific publications, including 15 books. He has 32 invention certificates that are widely recognized.
