Festival "Sikorsky Challenge 2019" is one of the most significant developments in the field of innovation in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It is pleasant to note that many projects made by university scientists or with their participation in creative teams, which include representatives of different organizations, got into the finals of the startup competition.

One of the developments that attracted visitors' and the jury's attention is "Innovative fibrous activated carbon sorption material of medical purpose "Borisfen-MN", executed under the direction of V.G.Nikolayev - Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine, Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of R. E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; V.V. Kudryachenko - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Associate Professor of KNUTE; O. E. Kolosov - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Honored Inventor of Ukraine, Professor of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

The sorption material for medical use proposed by scientists can be used in surgical wards, traumatology, burn centres as a dressing for the treatment of wounds and burns, haemo-sorption agent for the removal of pathogens of different nature, gastrointestinal adsorbent, etc. It will be useful in dentistry, cosmetology, veterinary medicine, emergency services, internal troops and individual users.

With this carbon dressing, it is possible to treat infected wounds, burns of different area and degree, eczema, ulcers, pressure ulcers, and to prevent purulent-septic complications. It has a pronounced hemostatic and bacteriostatic effect, 3 times higher than the hygroscopicity of the gauze, accelerates wound healing 1.5-2 times and prevents re-infection, promotes healing of the transplanted skin, close to the wound surface of any contour.

Developed gastrointestinal adsorbent based on carbon sorption material has a 10-20-fold advantage in binding major groups of toxic substances in comparison with known analogues. In terms of their functional characteristics, capacity with respect to the main groups of toxic substances, ease of use, and other pharmaco-economic indicators, these gastrointestinal adsorbents have no world analogues. The development is protected by objects of intellectual property and law of Ukraine - nine patents for inventions and utility models have been obtained.
