T.M. Bashta was born February 14, 1904 in Poltava in a large family of blacksmith. In 1914 the family moved in Ashgabat. In the age of eighteen - graduating the railway technical school – he started work an assistant, and then - a train driver of Asian Railway.

In 1923 the family returned to Ukraine. After studying during 1925-1930 years in rabfac (a college for workers) he studied at the Mechanical Faculty of KPI. In the 1930-31, studying at postgraduate KPI (Department of machine tools), he taught at the Institute of industrial communications, where he was the deputy director on education. Later he was sent to Moscow, where he graduated from the Institute of Red Professors of the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) (1934) and Mechanics and Mathamatics Faculty of Moscow State University by correspondence (1932).

From 1934 T.M. Bashta worked in Experimental Research Institute of machine tools. Here he created and headed the Bureau of hydraulic gear - design and research center in the USSR who first began to design and implement hydraulic transmission in domestic construction machines.

In 1935 T.M. Bashta was elected Scientific Secretary of the Technical Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In the years 1935-1936 under his direction, first domestic production plant hydraulic drivers was created.

In 1938 T.M.Bashta was accused of sabotage and arrested. In prison, he made acquaintance with A.M. Tupolev. When Tupolev was instructed to create the aircraft design bureau, T.Bashta was one of the first to work in it. He first in domestic practice made hydraulic systems that provide performance power features of management military vehicles.

In 1940 T.M.Bashta was released ahead of time. During the war, he worked first as an engineer-designer of aircraft repair shops, and later became head of the laboratory Flight Research institute of aviation industry.

In 1946 at the suggestion of T.M.Bashta, it was created experimental design bureau and landing units and aircraft hydraulic equipment plant №279. Trifon Maksimovic became chief designer and director of the plant. More than half a century, all aircraft, airplanes, helicopters, rocket and space technology, including well-known "Buran", were equipped and fitted with products, constructed based on inventions and developments T.M.Bashta.

Since 1955 T.M.Bashta lived in Kiev, worked at the Institute of Civil Aviation (now - National Aviation University). He was the author of over 200 published works, the last of which he published in the age of 79 years. About 120 people prepared and defended their dissertations under his leadership, and doctoral dissertations - 12 people. His disciples led many scientific and engineering organizations of the former Soviet Union and CIS.

T.M.Bashta died September 17, 1987. He was buried in Kiev.
