There were a lot of anniversaries of the chair of automation and control in technical systems (AUTS) in memory of its founders. One of the authors of this article is Ksenia Veremiyivna Biba. She has been working at the department since its foundation (and in KPI since 1935, it is also the anniversary, isn’t it?). The second author started his career at the department in the year of its 20th anniversary. If we match the age of the chair to the age of the age of a man, it seems, we passed all the major periods of its existence (remember Shakespeare's «As you like it» - the seven ages of a man: youth, maturity, middle age, the maturity of a wise age ...).

At the beginning

We will begin, of course, with unforgettable Iosyp Ilyich Hreben the founder of the chair. Prior to its creation, he worked at the department of automation and relay protection of power systems of our cathedral alma mater. If you choose one or two key words that can characterize him, these words are a teacher and an intellectual person from the capital letter. First, his attitude to the pedagogy of higher education, which subtleties, nuances and complexity of development and maintaining relationships with employees and students he understood. He was able to create and unite young team and lay the foundations for a modern specialty «Automation and Remote Control».

Foundation

H. B. Serdyuk came to the department with a new scientific field of «Technical (physical) elements of automatic diagnostics» in the early 70s (his students - O. V. Savchuk, K. O. Kolchenko, V. H. Usatenko and others). F. O. Katkov was the head of the department. By that time he had trained 6 doctors and 30 candidates in the field of transmission and transformation of information. Theoretical and applied tasks of coding and data transmission, including the latest at the time of fiber optic channels were successfully developed.

New look

In the early 80s the department was headed by A. A. Krasnoproshina «Margaret Thatcher» of our department. She is an energetic and charming woman, a well-known expert in the field of contemporary problems of automation.

Aida Andriivna is famous for scientific developments regarding the most pressing problems of the time of computerized production management (flexible and other automated systems), and creating the atmosphere of «a working community», friendly helping and mutual support at the department.

Starting from the middle of 80s the chair was developing with high speed, strengthened its position as the leading department in Ukraine specialty. The number of publications, books and manuals were significantly increased. Unfortunately, this dynamic process was slowed down by the overall negative economic situation in the middle of 90s, and then by the sudden death of professor A. A. Krasnoproshina.

Personnel is a great value

Many of the aforementioned graduate students and young employees of 60-70 years successfully work in the department nowadays, and «someone already passed away, and somebody is far away ...».

Actively promoted to the position of independent young assistants - our recent graduates T. Beznosykova, M. Bukasov, Y. Hlushko, V. Dolyna, Y. Dorohoy, K. Doroshenko, V. Zherebko, Y. Kotenko, A. Pysarenko. Our «super experienced» employees work in the scientific laboratories of the faculty and department H. A. Arakelyan, V. F. Hryshko and others.

T.H.Vlasova, N. M. Darmohray, N. V. Kuzmenko, T. M. Mazur, A. Polishchuk, T.Y. Raduhina, O. V. Tsyhankova, O. V. Scherban and their young assistants efficiently provide our colleagues with extensive experience and deep knowledge.

V. Ahabalov, O. Varvarov, N. Karpova, D. Kornyeyev, A. Kotraschenko, L. Polovnykova, A. Tymoshenko, K. Shelehov, N. Shynkevych, N.Yarosh and much other employees successfully worked in the department at different time. We apologize to our friends – former colleagues who are not mentioned in the list here.

Present

Today the staff of the department is managed by an energetic, highly educated scientist and teacher S. F. Telenyk. He has one feature: while teaching others he also learns. In a relatively short time (2-3 years) he managed to solve the problem of rejuvenation of employees (without offending « the old»).

The teaching process is organized in such a way that graduates, in addition to professional diploma can receive several certificates from leading manufacturers in the fields of high information technologies. CISCO and JAVA academies currently work in the department AUTS as a part of educational and scientific center of information and network technology, as well as the center of D-Link. Students show an active interest in obtaining new knowledge, followed by certification in the following areas: Internet providing; telecommunications, and educational technology; general organization and administration of LINUX operating system; a computerized control system industry – industrial controllers, SCADA-systems, industrial networks; software development language JAVA and others. The key idea of this training is to show that without an intelligent combination of practical and scientific work it is impossible to prepare a modern specialist ready to cooperate with an employer.

W. Shakespeare, who was mentioned at the beginning, named seven stages of life. Comparing them to the life of the department, we named its three main stages. Then the author speaks about sad reflections on old age and leaving the scene of human life. Here, of course, we strongly disagree about the native department. We strongly believe that the creative maturity of our friendly staff, which is observed today, will last for many years, and our younger colleagues will meet these department anniversaries.
