For two days, on November 9-10, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Clean Water. Fundamental, Applied and Industrial Aspects", dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the university.

The conference is extremely important for Ukraine because of the military aggression by Russia, when the destruction of power facilities, water intake and water treatment facilities and, of course, the criminal destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, not only disrupted the operation of centralized water supply, sewage and wastewater treatment systems, but also caused significant damage to the environment and the state of natural water bodies in our country.

The conference was organized with the support of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Lublin University of Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology (both in Poland), the UNESCO Chair in Higher Technical Education, Applied Systems Analysis and Informatics, and the Ukrainian-Polish Center of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It was held online.

At the virtual opening ceremony, the participants were greeted by Vitalii Pasichnyk, Vice-Rector for Research of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and Mateusz Bielas, Director of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv.

At the beginning of the scientific forum, its organizers honored the memory of an outstanding scientist in the field of water purification, winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Petro Hvozdiak.

Leading KPI scientists and representatives of a number of research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and leading universities of Ukraine and Poland, as well as the Hof University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and the University of British Columbia (Canada) took part in the presentation of their scientific achievements to colleagues, their review and discussion. Among the participants were representatives of industrial enterprises, companies, and firms such as World of Leather LLC (Bolekhiv, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast), PromTechWater LLC (Kyiv), MARCOR Company Ltd (Poland), IVIC Water Formula LLC (Kyiv), and Institute of Municipal Infrastructure LLC (Kyiv).

In total, the conference brought together more than 100 participants from 5 countries (Ukraine, Poland, Germany, France, Canada). The areas of their work were determined by the theme of this scientific meeting: "Natural Water Treatment Technologies. Technical Aspects of Water Supply", "Monitoring and Forecasting the State of Natural Water Bodies in Conditions of Intensive Water Consumption", "Wastewater Treatment Technologies, Sediment Disposal. Biological and biochemical aspects. Technical aspects of water disposal", "Water supply and drainage in the conditions of military aggression. Restoration of damaged water supply and sewage facilities" and "Energy and energy carriers from waste".
The plenary session was opened with a report by Larysa Sabliy, Professor of the Department of Bioenergy, Bioinformatics and Ecobiotechnology of the FBT, entitled "Modern Effective Technologies for Industrial Wastewater Treatment in Ukraine". The participants were also presented with the following reports: "Technological and technical solutions for the rapid restoration of water supply in a settlement" (author - Head of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage of the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Professor Viktor Khoruzhiy); "Strategies for improving process water recycling technology in the dairy industry" (prepared by Jan Marianowski and Jakub Drevnovski from MARCOR Company Ltd and the Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland)), other.

Thus, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted a scientific discussion of important aspects of water supply, sewage and water treatment in national and transnational dimensions, rational use of water resources in Ukraine, Poland, Germany, France, Canada, problems of ensuring proper water quality and its safety for human health, methods and technologies of its treatment, as well as ways to improve the operation of existing treatment facilities and modernize equipment, taking into account the savings of material and energy resources.

As a result of the conference, it was noted that

- the development of new methods and technologies for the treatment of natural surface and groundwater, wastewater of various origins by both physicochemical and biological methods using active sludge, immobilized microorganisms, associations of microorganisms-destructors, anammox bacteria was proposed;

- the methods of reuse, disposal of municipal and industrial wastewater sludge, which form a rational and balanced approach to their utilization, are considered;

- Priority areas in the field of natural and wastewater treatment with the lowest economic and material costs while ensuring regulatory requirements for the quality of treated water, waste processing to produce energy, and environmental conservation and protection were identified.

The conference proceedings were published and are available at http://purewater.net.ua.
