At the end of April, the XVII International Scientific and Technical Conference "Prospects of Telecommunications-2023" (ISTC "PT-2023") was held at the Educational and Research Institute of Telecommunication Systems and the Research Institute of Telecommunications of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The conference was held in a mixed format: plenary sessions were held in person, and sectional sessions were held online. In addition to the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute departments, 18 organizations from five cities of Ukraine took part in its organization and holding: Kyiv, Konotop, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Kharkiv, and three countries - Spain, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Sweden. A total of 182 people registered to participate in the conference.
Despite the war, the conference participants prepared for it very thoroughly: suffice it to say that 8 plenary speeches and 113 reports out of 135 submitted were heard at its plenary and breakout sessions. The participants worked in five sections: "Reliability and efficiency of information transmission"; "Network, fiber-optic technologies and security"; "Wireless technologies, mobile communication systems"; "Information technologies in telecommunications"; and "Sensor networks and the Internet of things". Simultaneously with this conference, the XV International Scientific and Technical Conference of Students and Postgraduates "Prospects for the Development of Information and Telecommunication Technologies and Systems-2023" (ISTC "PRITS-2023") was also held.
The conference was another evidence of the powerful integration of communication technologies into the life of a modern person. The decision of the XVII ISTC "PT-2023" and XV ISTC "PRITS-2023" noted that this year the number of reports on the use of artificial intelligence in communication technologies and security in electronic communications had increased at the conference. A significant part of the reports was related to the development of software applications. At the same time, the number of reports at the breakout sessions involving students and postgraduates has increased.
Evaluating the scientific level, practical results, and prospects for further use of the materials presented at the plenary and breakout sessions, five groups of reports were noted.
The first group includes 14 papers that, based on the combination of the above criteria, received the greatest interest and prospects for priority use in the educational process. Among them, in particular, the materials of the report "Implementation of the general principles of STEM education in the Educational and Research Institute of Telecommunication Systems of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (M.Y. Ilchenko, E.A. Yakornov) by the decision of the conference should be distributed among the staff and students of the ER ITS to focus on the basic principles of STEM education in the department. It was also recognized as expedient for students and teachers of the ER ITS to use the materials of the presentation "1000+ infotelecom news" (Assoc. Prof. I.V. Kononova) in the educational process.
The second group includes 9 reports, which, after some revision, possible combination of materials with the expansion of the volume of articles and emphasis on the novelty of scientific results, can be recommended for inclusion in the next issue of the monograph of the world-recognized publisher "Springer".
The third group includes 16 reports, which, after proper preparation in accordance with the requirements of domestic professional scientific journals of category A or B, in particular, the journal "Information and Telecommunication Sciences", can be published in them.
The fourth group includes the latest developments that are recommended for participation in competitions (festivals) of innovative projects and startups, in particular the Sikorsky Challenge.
The fifth group includes 12 reports that have potential for further obtaining new scientific and practical results and are recommended for participation in domestic or international competitions or grant projects. Among them, in particular, the materials of the plenary report "Software-configurable satellite infrastructure of the Internet of Things" (O. Narushkevych, A. Zhabchyk, S. Kapshtyk, T. Narytnyk) are recommended for participation in submitting a request for international competitions of scientific works (under the Horizon or NATO programs).
The scientific meeting also adopted a number of organizational and professional proposals for the preparation and holding of such events in the future. The next, XVIII ISTC "Prospects for Telecommunications-2024" and XVI ISTC for Students and Postgraduates "Prospects for the Development of Information and Telecommunication Technologies and Systems-2024" are scheduled to be held in April 2024.
