Dear veterans and current defenders of the Motherland! Dear Kyiv Polytechnic students!

On October 1, the Ukrainian people celebrate the Day of Defenders of Ukraine - a day of remembrance of our victorious ancestors who fought for the right to independence and freedom at the cost of their lives; a day of honoring Cossack valor; a day of gratitude to World War II veterans who defended their land.
It is a day to honor the heroes of today who are defending their homeland on land, at sea, in the air, on the front lines and in the enemy's deep rear, liberating their native land.

This day is special for Kyiv Polytechnicians. During the Second World War, KPI sacrificed its best scientific and technical achievements, its best human resources, and the lives of many students and teachers on the altar of Victory, the memory of which is preserved by the pedestal of Eternal Glory in the university park.

Nowadays, more than two hundred employees, teachers and students of the university and thousands of graduates of the past years are serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, voluntary organizations and volunteer community. Sixty-one polytechnicians gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war of 2014-2023. Among them, five were posthumously recognized as Heroes of Ukraine. Eternal glory to the polytechnic heroes who, through their sacrifice, gave us the opportunity to teach and learn, to work and create peacefully. Deep gratitude and respect to their families.

The Day of Defenders of Ukraine is a national holiday of unconquered, conscious citizens who ensure economic, humanitarian, educational and information protection of the state through their professional, teaching, scientific, social activities, conscientious work and study, and volunteer work.

Polytechnics provide comprehensive assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The university has a charitable organization "Kyiv Polytechnic Charitable Foundation for Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine". Teachers, researchers, staff, and students participate in numerous programs to develop the latest weapons and military equipment, as well as means of protecting soldiers on the battlefield.

Our resistance, our faith in the Victory will not be broken, because the truth and our land are behind us! History shows that a free people is invincible! Low bow to the defenders of Ukraine of all times! Glory to Ukraine!

With respect and gratitude
Michael Zgurovsky, Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
