This year's motto of celebrating the Day of Libraries at G. I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was “Library is alive!” It means to be diverse, eco-friendly, open, and effective!
The holiday program included the installation “Living Library” near the Foucault Pendulum; the “Secret Book” campaign at the library hall; a flash mob “Fly, live with the KPI Library”; a public report of the library and photo challenge on Facebook from the Ukrainian Library Association “Library is your pivot”.
The “Living Library” near the Foucault Pendulum became a call for being active and effective along with the library. The “Secret Book” campaign was a great success and ain\med to give away fifty books from thirty fascinating people. Wrapped in eco-paper books with a comment why this book is worth reading became a hit. The organizers gave them away in 2 hours!
Before the official part, a flashmob “Fly, live with the KPI Library” took place at the library hall. All the students who visited the library that day came together and flew paper airplanes from all floors.
“We are grateful to everyone who has been with us all this time! No pandemic and quarantine will stand in our way! Only together we can overcome any challenge of life!" – said Oksana Brui, the Director of G. I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, on the opening ceremony. She presented a public report of the library for the past year. She also spoke about the plans of its staff for the future.
So the speakers talked about information resources, for instance, Oksana Dmytrun, Department Head of the acquisition and scientific processing of documents, told about library collections and the library fund. Assistant Director for Information Support of Education and Research Yevheniia Kulyk told why it is significant to develop open science and how the library promotes the integration of the university into world education and science. Scientific Secretary Svitlana Barabash presented the scientific activity of the library. Head for culture and education Mariia Lapshyna explained how the library managed not to slow down in education, culture and science, and others.
Besides the library staff, people interacting and cooperating with it took the floor. Bart Wieckowski, Elsevier Customer Consultant for Central and Eastern Europe, not only congratulated the library on the holiday but also spoke about the cooperation between the university and the publishing company. “It is the library where you go at first in search of answers from research or other information. I wish the library to remain the head and soul of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute scientific community,” he concluded. Olha Maksymiv, the organizer and host of the PostArt project, thanked the library for its help in organizing various events. And, of course, teachers and University representatives addressed their warm greetings to the library.
Yaroslava Soshinska, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Library Association, read greetings to the G. I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library staff of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute from the President of Ukraine. She also stressed that it is the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Library that implemented the project “Support for Ukrainian Relocated Universities” with the assistance of the US Embassy.
And, following a good tradition, the Academic Council Chairman of the University, Mykhailo Ilchenko, congratulated the library staff on their professional holiday. He also made a gift to the library - the book Academician Mykhailo Ilchenko. Sixty years together with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
To sum up, G. I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is alive for real and develops with the University community.
