Only a few years ago, summer was considered a slack period among media workers. They say hot days tend to blissful calm and even relax, so do not wait for any breaking news. However, life itself shows us this idea is wrong: main events happen even on the hottest days when the temperature outside the window is high.

One of such expected and no less significant events for Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the domestic defense industry was the solemn ceremony when the first graduates of the School for Career Development of Design Engineers got certificates. The ceremony took place on July 9, 2021, in the meeting room of the Academic Council of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

Forty students from 23 enterprises of the State Concern Ukroboronprom received Certificates of advanced training. They include chief designers, department heads, laboratories, bureaus, design engineers and technologists, etc. Depending on the professional activity, students formed three subgroups in the Aviation and Rocket and Space Technology, Armored Vehicles, and Radio Electronic Equipment.

At the same time, all students studied three modules Systems Engineering, Modern Information Technology in the Design and Manufacture of Science-Intensive Products, Management of Innovative Projects and Programs. Students started training on April 20, 2021, and finished in early July 2021. The training was remote for the most part and used the Sikorsky Distance Learning Platform. However, students had face-to-face classes when they worked with computer equipment and modular information technology. Face-to-face education is about 20% of the program. The training ended with a face-to-face session of students.

General Director of the Ukroboronprom State Concern Yuriy Husyev and Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Michael Zgurovsky presented Certificates on the successful completion of the School to the graduates.

Do not forget that Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Ukroboronprom signed the agreement in February 2021 and established a new program for design engineers. The cooperation agreement focused on a significant expansion of cooperation, which began several years ago. Besides training and retraining of highly qualified personnel, the partnership provides for implementing promising research, organizing events on innovative development, and more. Moreover, the University has established the Institute of Advanced Defense Technologies. It will meet the needs of the defense industry enterprises of Ukraine with the capabilities of engineering and scientific schools of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

As reported by Yuriy Husyev, the new educational program will serve as the basis for the master's program, according to which Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute will train specialists for the defense and industrial complex of the state - aircraft industry. “We wish that both the state concern enterprises and the private enterprises to join the science and education project, which we are implementing on behalf of the President of Ukraine”, said the Head of Ukroboronprom. “We expect the newly graduated specialists of the School to generate new ideas and proposals based on the acquired knowledge.”

According to Anatolii Melnychenko, Vice-Rector for Education, this project is significant for Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute too. The University continues to increase its capabilities in ensuring the defense capabilities of Ukraine. And not only by creating new technologies but also by raising human potential creating innovative technology. He also named the University departments that participated in the advanced training program of the School for Career Development of Design Engineers. They are the Institute of Aerospace Technology, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, the Institute for Applied System Analysis, E.O. Paton Institute of Materials Science and Welding, the Institute of Postgraduate Education, and one of the SC Ukroboronprom research institutes.
