Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute and Northwestern Polytechnical University have signed an agreement to establish a Joint Sino-Ukrainian Space Science Laboratory. It will consist of two laboratories on the basis of both universities. The Institute of Aerospace Technologies together with scientific departments will serve the basis at Igor Sikorsky Polytechnic Institute.
The laboratory will work in coordination with the space agencies of the governments of China and Ukraine and will work as a platform for partnership between Chinese and Ukrainian institutions in the field of space. The main focus of the laboratory is the development of international cooperation between the two countries and the involvement of other universities, industry, business and government. The parties plan to implement joint engineering and space research, conduct Sino-Ukrainian scientific and educational activities, and involve sponsors in project financing.
The main areas of work will be space systems design, space science, and space transport systems, electronics for space, education, and law in this area. Based on the experience, the parties will expand cooperation in other scientific areas: the theory of aeronautics and astronautics, unmanned aerial vehicles, new materials, solar energy, etc.
