Among the projects presented at the Sikorsky Challenge Festival, the attention was drawn to the development of the "Segner Wheel Based Wind Engine", performed by Yelizaveta Stoliarchuk - student of the 11th grade of the Polytechnic Lyceum of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute under the direction of FMF employee. The work was honored by Leonid Kuchma's Presidential Foundation among the top 10, created by members of the Small Academy of Sciences.
After the ceremonies we interviewed our heroine: how the idea of this project appeared and how she resolved to create it. "I have been studying here since 5th form. The transition from public school to the lyceum, in-depth studying of physics, math and chemistry is the first step of curiosity to get more knowledge. At the beginning, I was participating at the subjects' Olympiads. As the main purpose of Olympiads is not a demonstration of learned material, but profound logic thinking, after a while the idea of solutions of goals (not tasks) started come to my mind."- told us Yelizaveta.
The second step is support of educational institution. The work on project is starting during the lessons at the lyceum, additional courses, where pupils get knowledge, which allows them to move on, work on their own project. Lyceum students wishing to work on project work are assisted in the selection of scientific and pedagogical leaders, and hard work begins.
The cooperation with higher educational institutions is an important aspect of scientific work od pupils. That`s the third step. As polytechnic Lyceum is a unit of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute then cooperation with leading scientists of this university is not something unattainable. KPI faculties readily offer their assistance. Oleg Kozlenko, the head of the educational and scientific laboratory of cryogenic technology Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Lyceum invited to teach the subject "Technology". Oleg Vladimirovich became the scientific leader of Elizaveta. Collaboration with the university is a valid argument for the development and implementation of the chosen project.
The assistance and active participation of the Kyiv Small Academy of Sciences is helpful, as it conducts various trainings, seminars to develop the skills of public speaking, teach the art of creating posters and presentations - the fourth step.
Therefore, the answer to the question "How can young people become interested in scientific and practical work?" is a close collaboration of the Polytechnic Lyceum where Lisa studies, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the Kyiv Small Academy of Sciences. They create all the conditions for scientific search. According to Elizabeth: "When the work begins on the prototype, its creation provides the lyceum; conducting experiments, analysis and refinement - takes place at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; in the work on the presentation, presentation of the material help the lyceum and KMAN." In the future, these organizations become coordinators, assistants in various project contests, startups and more.
Thanks to the Polytechnic Lyceum of NTUU "KPI" in Kyiv, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the Kyiv Academy of Sciences, modern youth are able to move forward and develop in the field of scientific and practical work.
