The first meeting of the newly elected Coordinating Council of student organizations of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute took place on the 21st of May.
This council was established to coordinate events, as well as to ensure effective interaction between students and administration and to ensure the maximum representation of students in the management of the university. Its members include leaders and representatives of student organizations - trade union students, student councils of the university, its campus and its institutes and faculties, the Scientific Society of Students and postgraduate students, the Council of Young Scientists and the self-governing student trade union.
In addition to representatives of the students’ assets, the rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykhailo Zhurovsky, vice presidents, heads of services and departments that take care of certain areas of life support of the university took part in the first meeting of the Coordinating Council.
"Today we are gathered to develop a system of effective interaction between the bodies of student self-government, student organizations and representatives of the university leadership," said Mykhailo Zhurovsky in his introductory speech. He also recalled the numerous and very large projects that were conceived and implemented by students, as well as those that are being implemented now; the problems that have to be overcome; told about the organization of management of the property complex of the university and its subdivisions, and the student's ability to influence the decision on his maintenance; the budget of the university and the faculties and the procedure for the formation and adoption of this financial document, and much more.
The range of issues raised by student activists and university service managers during the further conversation was very broad: support of community projects by the administration and grass-roots initiatives, maintenance of premises, attendance of physical training, the arrangement of the everyday life of students, the opening of workshops and buffets in some buildings, usage of the university network "E-campus", etc. The participants didn’t forget about the student scientific and innovative activities, as well as purely educational issues. The conversation turned out to be frank, sometimes quite acute, but very useful and interesting both for the heads of student organizations and for the heads of the university. Therefore, its participants agreed to hold such meetings each semester, and with the appearance of problems that require rapid response even more often. At the level of separate faculties and institutes the meetings of the student council with the leadership are planned to be held on a monthly basis.
