On October 31, there was meeting of the trade union committee of Igor Sikorsky KPI employees. Presiding at the meeting the chairman of the trade union committee Mykhaylo Bezuglyi informed the present about the most significant provisions of the new Pension Law and the new edition of the Law on Education, which could lead to a deterioration of the lives of millions of educators. When adopting these legal acts, deputies were guided mainly by the desire to reduce the cost of financing retirement benefits and the educational sector, which should lead to a decrease in the standard of living of both pensioners and educators.
Mykhaylo Bezugly also informed about the decision of the Kyiv City Organization of the Union of Workers of Education and Science of Ukraine on holding a peaceful public protest action near the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on November 1, the main requirement of which is to ensure proper financing of the educational sector. The decision to hold it was taken by the Presidium of the Kyiv City Organization of the Union of Workers of Education and Science of Ukraine on October 25. Presidium of the trade union committee of the Igor Sikorsky KPI unanimously decided to join this action.
The first pro-rector of the Igor Sikorsky KPI Yuriy Yakimenko spoke at the meeting of the Presidium of the trade union. He reported about the difficult situation, which consists of the heating of educational buildings and dormitories of our university in the heating season. The state has not the first year in a row not allocated to higher educational institutions, including our university, funds sufficient to ensure the normal heating of premises in the cold season. As a result, some Kiev universities last winter were closed during the past two months, and at our university for some time were closed to visit some individual buildings. This year we will have to do that again. But taking into account last years’ experience, changes were made to the schedule of the educational process in order to minimize the negative consequences of disconnection. The first pro-rector also informed about the steps, which the leadership of our university is taking to improve heat supply and reduce the cost of heat when heating the premises, about various alternative heat supply projects that were reviewed during the current year. The information was taken into consideration.
Members of the trade union committee also discussed current issues.
