According to the United Nations decision, on May 25th the whole world celebrates Africa Day.
On the occasion of this holiday, the Foundation of the Development of Juvenile Rugby with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Ukraine, the Rugby Union of Ukraine (RUU) and the Rugby Club "Polytechnic" have been hosting the International Youth Tournament "Rugby South Africa Ambassador in Ukraine Cup" for 7 years in a row.
In South Africa, rugby is a national sport, and national team of South Africa is one of the strongest on the planet and won the Rugby World Cup.
On May 27-28, 18 teams gathered at the Spartak Stadium to win an honorary trophy. The University team “Polytechnic” was prepared for participating in the competition the professor of the department of sports improvement, Ph.D., master of sports Alexander Sabirov and the master of sports Anatolyi Kozenko.
Among the honored guests of the tournament were Ambassador of the South African Republic to Ukraine Christian Bassoon, President of the RUU Eugene Bazhenkov, Head of the Department of English language of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Ph.D., associate professor Irina Simkova, president of the African Council in Ukraine Issa Sadio Diallo, two-time prize-winner of the Olympic Games Elena Pakholchyk, Vice Minister of Youth and Sports Mykola Movchan and others.
Rugby players form “Polytechnic” have shown high skills, however we were short of points to reach the third place, and this time we are fourth.
But polytechnics were not left without prizes. Yaroslav Dvorshchenko was recognized as the best player in the tournament and was awarded with an honorary medal, a diploma and a valuable gift from the South African Embassy. Coaches of the best player also received honored medals.
Autumn is scheduled to hold another international tournament for prizes of the French Ambassador in Ukraine. We wish our rugby players success in future competitions!
