Range of activities of the Scientific and Technical Library of  G.I.Denisenko NTUU"KPI" is wide enough: information support educational and scientific work of the University, creation its own electronic resources, scientific and bibliographic, humanitarian, educational and cultural-educational work. In recent years there was an active work on the development of the old part of the book fund (publications XVIII - first half XIX cent.). Employees Fund of rare and valuable editions of the library scrutinize each book landmark, setting it into an electronic catalog and entering the information about it in a scientific bibliographic reference.

This scientific-research work requires a thorough bibliographic training. In order to improve the quality of work and professional qualification, librarians initiated the establishment on the basis of STL NTUU "KPI" school-workshop for employees departments of rare and valuable editions of universities’ libraries of Ukraine.

Our proposal is supported Ukrainian Library Association (ULA) and Methodological Center of libraries of higher educational institutions of Ukraine. Because the formation of departments incunabula, manuscripts, rare and valuable books in university libraries is a not easy business, which has a long and interesting history. Scientists, librarians cooperated with research scientists and students. Ancient Literature gives a vivid picture of the development of a particular field of science and technology. Regarding the yellowed pages of two centuries ago, students have the opportunity to realize a long way to the development of scientific thought, track the history of higher education in general and in particular to their profession. Familiarity with old textbooks encourages learning and provides an understanding of historical perspective a particular specialty.

In Ukraine, the there are well known unique libraries in Lviv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi Universities, which already have the status of national scientific heritage. Among the libraries of technical direction the most full are the libraries of Kharkiv and Lviv and technical universities. But among the universities in the country  there are plenty of those where the processing of old book collections is only started, and very important is the correct scientific approach to all aspects of this activity.

That is why the initiative of employees STL of G.I.Denisenko had a great response and more than 70 libraries  of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Nezhin  and Uman responded to the invitation. Besides university libraries there were presented National Library of Ukraine of V.I.Vernadsky, National  History Library of Ukraine, libraries of science institutes of the NAS of Ukraine.
