Vice President for International Relations, University of Luxembourg, Professor Frank Leprevost gave a lecture «James Bond's most secret weapon» for students and teachers of NTUU "KPI".
Those who expected only stories about the shooting, pursuits, miniature spy gadgets and equipped with machine guns, radar and missiles «Aston Martin», at this meeting was disappointed. However, there were no such people in the hall of the Academic Council - all who came to the lecture by Professor of Mathematics, author and co-author of numerous articles, books, and special reports on cryptology and information security, one of the experts of the European Parliament, understand that it will be about modern security technology in telecommunication systems and things like that. Despite the fact that in the announcement of the lecture was added that the audience "do not need to know math and cryptography, but only about 007", the auditorium was filled by students and employees of the Department of Applied Mathematics and other divisions of NTUU "KPI" of appropriate direction, as well as by professionals working in related fields of this subject.
And although Professor Leprevost start his lecture with James Bond and his literary "father" Ian Fleming, it was indeed devoted to cryptography, the historical stages of its development and mathematical aspects of the construction of modern public-key and hybrid cryptosystems. In Luxembourg, these systems are mainly used for information exchange in the banking sector, but they are just as effective as for other sectors, in particular the area of defense. Therefore, for our country, which is actually in a state of war, this issue is particularly relevant now. Of course, Professor Leprevost talked about general issues of information security in modern conditions, but he chose for the presentation of his story so animated and laid-back form, that the audience tried not to miss any of his words.
This is the second visit Franc Leprevost to the KPI. Therefore, during his time at university he also discussed with representatives of administration expansion of cooperation between NTUU "KPI" and the University of Luxembourg in the framework of the existing cooperation agreements, focusing on the possibility of academic exchange and implementation of the overall training program PhD, according to which graduate students could have two scientific leaders - one from Ukraine, the other - from Luxembourg, and got acquainted with the work of the Department of Applied mathematics.
