Honorary Member of the Academies of Sciences, scientific societies, honorary doctor of many universities around the world. He was awarded the prestigious names medals for achievements in science and technology.
Main directions of his research were: basic research problems of solid mechanics, strength, stability and vibrations of mechanical systems. His fundamental research on strength of materials, the application of the theory of elasticity and the theory of oscillations ahead of their time and found the full practical use in the creation of modern aerospace engineering, civil engineering and shipbuilding. His scientific works are relevant today, his books have been translated into many foreign languages, they are used for the training of mechanical engineers worldwide.
