National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTUU “KPI”) today announced that it has been named a GPU Education Center and GPU Research Center by NVIDIA, a computer technology company that has pioneered GPU-accelerated computing.
GPU Education Centers are recognized institutions that have integrated GPU-accelerated computing into their mainstream science and engineering curriculum. GPU-accelerated computing leverages the parallel processing capabilities of GPU accelerators and enabling software to deliver dramatic increases in performance for scientific, artificial intelligence, deep learning, graphics, engineering, and other demanding applications.
GPU Research Centers are institutions that embrace and utilize GPU-accelerated computing across multiple research fields, and are at the forefront of some of the world’s most innovative scientific research. GPU-accelerated computing leverages the parallel processing capabilities of GPU accelerators and enabling software to deliver dramatic increases in performance for scientific, artificial intelligence, deep learning, graphics, engineering, and other demanding applications.
NTUU "KPI" was recognized for its commitment to advancing the state of parallel programming education and research in areas of computational fluid dynamics, turbulence and drag reduction techniques, mathematical modeling, and material-structure optimization using GPUs.
The GPU Education and Research Centers will be organized and function on the base of three powerful subdivisions of NTUU "KPI", namely:
- Faculty of Aerospace Systems;
- Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science ;
- High Performance Computing Center.
NTUU "KPI" has highly qualified personnel, which provides both research in high performance computing (HPC) and GPU accelerated computing training courses for students and postgraduates of NTUU "KPI", in particular: “Massively parallel computing on GPUs", “High performance computing”, “Technologies of distributed systems and parallel computations”, “Distributed computing systems and technologies”.
The designation as a GPU Education Center and GPU Research Center for NTUU “KPI” creates favorable conditions for effective studying, teaching and scientific application of GPU accelerated computing through 24/7 remote user access to the High Performance Computing Center cluster systems.
“Receiving the status of a GPU Education and GPU Research Center is a great honor and bright event for our University. Integrating NVIDIA GPU-accelerated computing technologies into educational and research process of NTUU "KPI" is a real demonstration of our commitment to follow the way of progress, to be at the forefront together with the world's innovation leaders.” – Michael Zgurovsky.
“GPU-accelerated computing is addressing the most challenging problems facing the world today. The new KPI center brings the outstanding talents at the National Technical University of Ukraine to this exciting field. I fully expect that their work will make a major impact nationally and internationally. I very much look forward to collaborating with this talented team.” - Wen-Mei W. Hwu, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA
"What terrific news! I am delighted to hear that the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” has earned the twin distinctions of GPU Education Center and GPU Research Center. These honors provide an excellent springboard for students at the university to become experts in parallel computing and contribute their talents to the technology community. My experience has been that NVIDIA is an ideal partner for teaching and research, and I look forward to the great students and great work that will come from these centers." - John Douglas Owens, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California, Davis, USA
As a GPU Education Center, NTUU "KPI" will have access to NVIDIA GPU hardware and software, and NVIDIA parallel programming experts and resources, including educational webinars and an array of teaching materials. NTUU "KPI" students and faculty also receive access to free GPU programming training at nvidia.qwiklab.com. The comprehensive, self-paced training spans introductory to expert level coursework on a range of GPU programming languages, applications, libraries, programming models and tools. GPU Education Centers were formerly known as CUDA Teaching Centers.
As a GPU Research Center, NTUU "KPI" will have pre-release access to NVIDIA GPU hardware and software, the opportunity to attend exclusive events with key researchers and academics, a designated NVIDIA technical liaison, and access to specialized online and in-person training sessions.
