Oleksii M.Novikov, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Physics and Technology at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), doctor of technical sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a well-known scientist in the field of analysis and synthesis of complex cyber security systems
Born on December 1, 1954. In 1982 he graduated from the Faculty of Control Systems at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, which he entered in 1975 upon demobilization. He started serving as the research engineer of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1982, his length of service totals 47 years, scientific and educational experience – 26 years. Mr. Novikov earned his Candidate of Technical Sciences in 1987, and Doctor of Technical Sciences in 1994. In 2001 the academic title of a professor at the Information Security Department was conferred on him, and in 2021 he was elected as corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, specializing in Cyber Security.
Since 1995, Oleksii Novikov had been serving as dean for the newly established physical and technical faculty at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute under the dual jurisdiction of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. He served as director of the Institute of Physics and Technology at KPI named for Igor Sikorsky from 1999 to 2013, and as scientific director from 2014 to 2019. He served as head of the Department of Information Security at Igor Sikorsky KPI, from 1999 to 2014. Mr. Novikov was KPI Vice-Rector of Perspective Development (2013-19) and has been serving as director of the Institute of Physics and Technology at Igor Sikorsky KPI (2019 – Present).
Regarding the results of Prof. Oleksii Novikov’s research, he has three monographs, one textbook under seal of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, two protective documents concerning the object of intellectual property rights, five certificates of copyright registration for a software product. He has published more than 120 papers in scientific specialized publications. As further confirmation of Oleksii Novikov’s numerous accomplishments, seven students earned their candidates of sciences (Ph.D. degrees) under his supervision.
Prof. Oleksii Novikov’s research is mainly focused on security properties of complex systems, he is a well-known scientist in the field of analysis and synthesis of structurally complex systems with set security properties. Based on the logic-probability method, a number of models and methods for calculating the probability of transition of structurally complex systems to a dangerous state have been evolved. He developed methods of optimal synthesis of complex systems, in particular, the tasks of optimal placement of protection mechanisms and construction of a secure topology of information and communication networks were carried out; several scenarios for a fight against external cyber attacks, and special-purpose software tools were designed.
Oleksii M. Novikov is the Honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine (1998), Ukraine’s State Prize winner in the field of science and technology (2005), awarded of the Order of Merit Third Class in 2008.
