The monument of Sergei Lebedev is established in Museum Square (before 6 building of KPI). It is opened in 2002. Sculptor is A. Skoblikov. The bronze monument of scientist is set on a rectangular red polished granite pedestal. Sergei Lebedev is depicted in adulthood. All traits of his appearance are masterly made: the thin face, the thick short hair, combed back, the glasses. The front composition diversifies with the movement of his hands, where left one is on a pile of books, the right one, bent at the elbow, raises in a tranquil expressive gesture. The realistic interpretation of his image with his psychological gestures is reinforced by the separate parts of his silhouette.
On the pedestal of the monument is inscribed: "Sergei Lebedev," "... The computer technology will be at least if not more important than any other technology," 1948.
On the reverse side of the pedestal is inscribed: for the creator of the first in continental Europe computer from the students of Kyiv Politecnic. 2002 Sculptor: A. Skoblikov
Biography: Sergei Lebedev (1902- 1974) is a scientist in the field of electrical and computer engineering, the member of the Academy of Science of Ukrainian SSR (1945), the member of the Academy of Science of USSR (1953), Hero of Socialist Labor (1956). After the graduation from Moscow Higher Technical School (1928), he worked at the All-Union Electrotechnical Institute, in 1930, he was the founder and head of the Laboratory of electrical systems, in 1936- 1946 - he was the head of the Department of automation. At the same time, he was the one of the first teachers of the Moscow Energy Institute (1930), the professor (1935), the head of department (since 1943). After moving to Kyiv in 1946-1951, he was the Director of the Institute of Energy (1947 - Electrical) AS of USSR. Here, under the direction of S. Lebedev, in 1950, it was created and commissioned the first in the USSR and in Europe electronic digital computer "MZSM" (there is the granite plaque on the building on the street. Gonchar, 55-B, 1977 ) in the lab founded by him. In 1957, on the basis of the laboratory it was organized the Computing Center of USSR, in 1962 it was transformed into the Institute of Cybernetics AS of USSR (now Ukraine NAS). He took an active part in the commission of AS of Ukrainian SSR which dealt with the restoration of the productive forces of the USSR (December 1947), viewing the Charter of Academy (January 1948), the history of technology (March 1949). He lived on the street. Kost'ol'na 15 apartment № 21, in Kiev. From 1952 to 1973, he was the Director of the Institute of Fine Mechanics and Computer Science of the USSR, where under his leadership, there was created a series of electronic computers "BZSM" to the best world standards. He was one of the initiators of the establishment of the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute.
His research works are based on the problems of creating powerful integrated energy systems, he is the original author of the theory of artificial stability of power systems. He was one of the founders of electronic computing, founder of scientific school in this field. He was awarded of the State Prize of the USSR (1950, 1969), the Lenin Prize (1966). Presidium of the AS of Ukrainian SSR founded the Prize of S. Lebedev in 1977.
