The laureates were Alain Aspect from France, John F. Clauser from the USA and Anton Zeilinger from Austria.
The award was awarded jointly for " for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science."
The Nobel Committee noted that the scientists "cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information."
