Today, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has made the first important step towards the world standards of intellectual property. Our University held a meeting with the government representatives and the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute” (Ukrpatent).
The protection and support of inventions are extremely important for Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute - as a leader in developing innovative projects, said Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Mykhailo Zgurovsky:
‘Ukraine has left far behind the rest of the world in the sphere of intellectual property protection. And we've got to keep up with the trends. It is important that now the international organization will provide us with comprehensive assistance and raise the level of specialists. We know how to invent, but we don't know how to deal with them further. We have not learned to develop inventions as business. We have the Sikorsky Challenge Innovation Ecosystem, and we have brought more than 150 new technologies to market, protecting the intellectual property rights of owners. However, we need to work with the rest of the world. TISC and the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine are key organizations to help us make a pilot project that will serve a demonstration of a good experience to share with others.’
In turn, Deputy Director of the Department of Intellectual Property, the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Bohdan Paduchak stressed that the state must assist its scientists:
‘The issue of intellectual property in terms of the introduction of new technologies is currently of great interest. Today, due to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Ukraine has reached the appropriate level in the international arena. Our country is marked on the world map as innovative. There have been many positive legislative changes in the field of intellectual property over the last year. We will work together to help our scientists. I'm sure your experience will be useful for Technology and Innovation Support Centers network.’
Besides the TISC opening hosted by our University, the parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute” (Ukrpatent) and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Danylo Tsvok, Director for Intellectual Property Relations Development of Ukrpatent, expressed readiness to cooperate within the Sikorsky Challenge Innovation Ecosystem:
‘The world is in difficult circumstances today. We are facing another challenge, so innovation must provide answers to up-to-date questions. The main aim of the center is to protect invention, actually from idea to commercializing a project. As for cooperation in the Sikorsky Challenge Innovation Ecosystem, I suppose it is a very good proposal, because we share values and principles of teamwork.’
Kasim Velychko, Head of IP Relations Development Department, noted that TISCs implemented in Ukraine under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) are receiving more and more requests:
‘Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is one of the best technical institutions. The University staff taking part in the project will gain international experience and will be trained by experts from all over the world.
