Today innovation activity of Ukrainian enterprises is at very low level. This is especially true of small innovative business, while at the same time it plays an important role as a major environment for the Ukrainian economy in general and big business in particular.
Despite the fact that there are so many talks about high innovative potenial of the country and the need to build a new economy based on knowledge, the development of small innovative companies is facing serious challenges. Among them - the imperfection of the legislation and corruption; weakness of the Ukrainian market of innovation; low motivation of entrepreneurs; lack of support for innovation on the part of the state and so on ..
May be, the most, innovative challenge to the development of small and medium-sized businesses is the lack of relevant traditions and the environment in which the creation of start-up companies - small innovative enterprises, would be natural and desirable for all subjects of the innovation market.
It is clear that the emergence and development of these traditions and environment is possible only to solve the personnel problem, that is, the provision of training a large number of scientists and engineers, aimed at the creation of innovative start-ups and enterprises.
The fact that business education in Ukraine is just beginning to develop and often is ineffective - a purely theoretical and copies the foreign courses, unsuitable for local conditions. The reason for this is insufficient amount or total absence of coaches practicing high-tech business among the university teachers.
Another problem is the brain drain. The focus on the emigration of talented young people, who do not see opportunities to realize their academic and entrepreneurial tendencies in Ukraine is particularly disturbing.
To overcome these problems an innovative environment ecosystem Sikorsky Challenge was created on the basis of our university. The Startup School is an important and necessary element of it. The main purposes of this school are: education students, graduates of technical universities and inventors, ensuring of gaining practical experience, to familiarization with the relevant practices and organization of high-tech start-ups launches. At all stages of learning cooperation with business incubators and science park "Kyiv politehnika" and effective interaction with foreign professionals with practical experience in the creation and development of start-up companies are ensured.
The training program in the Startup School Sikorsky Challege consists of a three-stage preparation of future startups:
- Stage 1, "Introduction to Innovative Entrepreneurship" (2 months);
- Stage 2 "The practice of starting a startup" (3 months);
- Stage 3 "Work on the prototype and the formation of a start-up project for interested investors" (5 months).
Tasks of 1st stage Startup School Sikorsky Challenge - provide theoretical and practical training participants in the innovation business, strengthen their motivation to grow business ideas and the creation of start-up companies. Consequently, besides the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the 1st stage Startup School students will be able to obtain the right to participate in the competition to be taught in the 2nd stage Startup School and, in the end, an international certificate. Of course, during this training, they will become familiar with the well-known entrepreneurs, experts, mentors, and learn about their experiences in the creation / participation / development / sale startap- successful companies.
