All –Ukrainian day of libraries is celebrating in Ukraine every year on September 30th more than 15 years and it is a professional holiday for the workers of nearly 40 thousands working libraries.
Modern library combine the education and information, giving access to its’ founds and besides it, opens electric resource for readers. Its’ functions became wider, different exhibitions, conferences, briefings and creative evenings are held there.
With the appearance of the internet, gadgets and readers appeared the questions of possible useless of further printed matters and with it libraries. New technologies have a great impact on social and cultural life of the readers and it’s can cause a great influence on library functioning.
Today for somebody in the library can be strange that most of visitors of the library don’t sit in front of computer screen. And ideal place for students, as it tends to be, are presents computer-aided places, comfortable furniture, enough amount of rosettes for leptops and obligatory presents of Wi-Fi. Libraries have to answer all requests of reader, that means to get maximum information in one building. That’s why books don’t sink into the background but staying the best source of information.
The proof of that that the libraries don’t disappear is recent discovery in English town in Birmingham where the biggest library of Europe is situated. On foundation of this library was spent 188 million of ponds from the town budget. The building of Birmingham Library consists of 10 levels: spacious hall with attic, ground floor with closed terrace, 4 floors for public usage and 2 open terraces, also 2 separate floors are under the archive and staff rooms, and the last floor is for Shakespeare’s room.
Birmingham`s library has interesting design, which contains space ideas and modern technologies. There are going to be installations different performances and shows, master- classes. Events that are going to be there will combine different fields of culture as the main idea is based on creating special place where people with the same people will gather. Library staff is planning to involve more that 3 million of visitors every year and extra million visitors on-line.
People with pleasure visit libraries not only because of the modern design and presence of modern technologies. The last time bookcrossing become very popular – book exchanging is a performance when the person who have read the book leaves it in special place for this, to take somebody else to read it. The last time you can find the book crossing shelves in cafes, parks and of course in libraries.
National – technical library of G.I. Denysenko in NTUU “KPI” also becomes more modern and adapts to visitors needs giving not only 3 million copies of publications but also creating electronic library, archive of methodological publications of university, that are widely used among the students. We can’t say about impossibility that electronic catalogue includes literature till 1970, electronic archive shows full texts of educational materials, and there are digitized unic documents of university history and scientific works of well-known scientists.
Visitors of the library can use the internet for work and get the access to Wi-Fi. On all the floors of the library you can learn the collection of 8,5 hundreds of portraits of well-known people of different centuries, who were born in Ukraine or connected with it, also portraits of those who glorify our country abroad, and all of this is a part of project “Ukrainians in the world”.
In spite of the speed connection with the Internet, which gives constant access to different information recourses, as usual students of KPI interested in published books, finding answers to their questions there. And it is not strange situation, as virtual experience won’t replace experience get while library visit. Obviously, that in the world full of digital technologies, person feels the need of real place for studying during all life.
Every year science and technical library of KPI celebrates its professional holiday. The main condition of the holiday is excursion and labor organization of staff traditionally gives the some founds on library reorganization. This year September 28th are going to the ancient town Radomyshl.
September 30th are going to be meeting of library staff, where the most famous grantor: M.Z. Zgurovskii and V.V. Jankovyi – for thie help in library founds increasing, V.M. Pershyn – for sponsors help in buying computer equipment. Also will be marked some staff of the library for active participating of informational technologies in library’s work: S.M. Kyrylenko, I.O. Judina, O.V. Petrovska, O.E.Shpak, S.M.Lebedeva, N.V. Mikeladze, O.V. Kosmina, O.M. Bozenko, J.M. Vdovychenko, O.I.Korobetch, L.V. Tepikina, O.V. Kotliar, O.P. Dmytrun, A. M. Breusov, S.M.
